Greck is the Bears' middle linebacker. He is known in the book for being one of Tom's best friends, and is also a great defensive player. His great defensive skills are shown when he makes many clutch plays throughout the season, and his friendship skills are shown throughout the book when he is with Tom. Greck also shares many personality traits with Tom, such as never making a cheap shot, shown when he had many opportunities to make big time tackles, but only wrapped up, and is also very modest, shown when he did not celebrate too much after winning the championship.

Coach Fisher is the coach for the Bears' football team. He is a role model in Tom's life and pushes him to work hard. He also cares for Tom and wants to do what is best for him.
He is excellent coach and has lead the Bears' team to an excellent record. Some of Coach Fisher's character traits are humble, e.g. when he didn't celebrate too much after winning the championship, caring, e.g. when he told Tom to stop scrimmaging at practice when he got mad and started hitting too hard at practice, and finally, Coach Fisher is an extremely good leader, shown throughout the book with his football team.

This book also travels throughout the city that Tom lives in, but the main locations in the book where events happen are Tommy's house, the skateboard park, and the football field. The author of this book did not really give a time in which it took place, but I would assume that it took place during modern time.

The theme of this book is to never give up. In this book, Tom faces many difficult challenges, but never gives up and wins the championship for his team. For example, when Tom's father passed away, he could have chosen to quit football and use his time to mourn and weep, but he decided to keep playing and led his team to a championship. Another example from the book is Emily when Patrick died. At first, Emily did mourn and weep and isolate herself. She even quit playing soccer. However, as she matured and developed more into a woman, she started to forget the past and led her soccer team to a championship.
