The Constitutional Convention had to deal with the southern states wanting slavery and the nor
thern states wanting to abolish it. They argued for many days but eventually came to a compromise. Congress would have the power to ban the slave trade but not until 1808. Then the southern states wanted their slaves to be counted as population so they could have more representatives in the House of Representatives. The Northern states did not like this idea because they had less of a slave population and therefore fewer representatives.
