Following a custom she maintained throughout his widowhood, Victoria spent her last Christmas at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight. The rheumatism of her legs prevented her from walking and her vision was greatly affected by the cataracts. At the beginning of January she claimed to feel "bad and weak," and in the middle of the month she wrote in his diary that she was "sleepy, dizzy and confused." She died there, due to the weakening of her health, on Tuesday, January 22, 1901, at 6:30, with 81 years.
