First, do some research about the weather of your new city to know what kind of clothes you should bring. If you decide to come to Londrina – Paraná, bring some fresh clothes for the hot days but don’t forget a sweatshirt. About what clothes to wear to go out at night, it depends on the occasion, but here in Londrina, we don’t use flip flops.

Talking about the shoes, in my house, we don’t have a real rule about getting in with the shoes on or off but remember to ask your host family about it.

About the meals, my family don’t always have breakfast together because our schedules are different. Everyday, we drink coffee with milk (in Brazil, we call it pingado) and eat some toast. But we always have lunch together, all sitting at the table. The other meal we almost always have together is the afternoon coffee, at 6pm. It’s always nice and we talk about what happened during the day. At night, we have dinner in the TV room, watching something. So, again, remember to ask about this to your host family, because every house has its “rules”.

Alice.

Well, Brazil is one of the most beautiful countries in world and the population is friendly but you need to know some things to survive here. I hope these informations are useful.

First, you need to be prepared to the weather, because is really warm here, so you need to bring a lot of summer clothes and sunscreen. But bring other types of clothes too, because some places or occasions call for more "behaved" clothes.

In Brazil we have a mix of different cultures, so don't worry if you don't know about some culture, you'll learn a lot about it. I only have one thing to ask you: Never speak Spanish with a Brazilian, because we speak Portuguese even though it's a Latin country, we are tired of hearing that.

Pay attention to how to greet someone, in some states, like São Paulo, we say hello by kissing the person, but in other states, like Rio de Janeiro, we greet the person with two kisses and in Minas Gerais we greet the person with three kisses. I know, it's a mess.

Anyway, we have many celebrations here, I advise you to enjoy all of them, you'll have fun and learn a lot about our country.

By Letícia Neves

Brazil is an amazing country to visit, one of the biggest countries in the world, with much diversity. Here you can find beautiful beaches, exuberant nature landscapes and cultural parties. You probably will make some good friends.

Our climate is mainly hot, but I’d advise you to search about the weather specifically in the city you’re planning to come. In the south, it may be cold even in the summer or spring, sometimes the day starts hot and ends cold. Even though, remember to bring soft clothes.

Here you will certainly have an amazing gastronomical experience. It’s my favorite part! You can taste traditional Brazilian dishes, like feijoada, cuzcuz or acarajé. You can also find some popular foods from abroad, but we always modify some ingredients to make it more flavorful. The truth is that Brazilians are very creative with food. We mix foods that aparentally doesn’t match, but actually, the taste is very good in the end. For example, you can think that beans and pasta don’t belong together, but we tried and we love it!

Finally, we are very receptive and caring people, so don’t be scared if someone tries to kiss or hug you, is just the way we usually say hello. If you come to Brazil, I hope you have a good time and enjoy our country!

Thainara

Well, my friend here in Brazil we normally follow some informal rules for most of the habits that we have, and you don’t need to know about before you came here because all of them make part of a culture that you learned with the time and the familiarity with the people and their routines.
One thing that almost everyone follows is that we usually arrive a little bit late to diners that are scheduled earlier, we usually eat the biggest meal in the lunch with plate that contains rice and beans.
Our people are much more informal and closer than the other countries are, like we use to take a kiss in the cheek when you meet someone, we give hugs to our family and friends, we call the people by their first names.
As I said before we are much closer, so our celebrations are consisted in family reunions or friends and is always a party that have music, a lot of food, usually a barbecue, with meat and beers.
In resume are country people are hearty, kind and lively. We respect everybody and we made a friendship with everybody. That is the people you gonna find here.
Best Regards

By Vinícius Pavão

Welcome to a country that is not exactly what you once imagined.

Brazil is the largest country in South America, and with this has one of the greatest variations in climate, vegetation, custom and culture within the same country in almost all of America.

Don't think that knowing one of the regions you will get to know what our Brazil is, We are as different from North to South as Italians can be different from Germans. These differences may be present in our cuisine, which in the South and Southeast is greatly influenced by European cultures, while in the North and Northeast they have roots in traditions of traditional peoples (indigenous) and Africans who arrived in Brazil enslaved. In addition to food, differences can be seen in music and especially in dance, as well as food, as music and dances typical of each region have a distinct influence from region to region. But after all, what is common among Brazilians, in general, some things are among all Brazilians, the consumption of coffee, the traditional dish that can be found throughout Brazil (rice, beans, meat and salad) and the capacity of the brazilian to make friends.

Welcome an enjoy the brazilian way

DANIEL FRANZ

Besides, have excellent culinary dishes. As an exemple, here we have gods food: cheese bread, that in portuguese we call “pão de queijo” and, brigadeiro, that is a mixture of condensed milk with powdered chocolate. When it comes to food, we have no rules, so you can even eat cheese bread stuffed with brigadeiro.

Known as a big country, in Brazil we have a big diversity too. An example of this is “açaí”. A wonderful fruit that is planted in the north. Where açaí is originally eaten with fish, and salt dishes, but, with the popularity of that fruit, in a lot of places açaí is eaten as an ice cream, with another popular fruits like banana and guaraná.

It’s amazing what brazilians can do. The sky it’s not the limit. And, that is just a little tiny piece of what Brazil can offer. I'm sure that you will have great moments and will keep beautiful memories from Brazil for the rest of your life.

Beatriz Brito
