I think today went very well. At the start of the day, according to a patient who was received, I had to research and compare the following:

The importance of a medical researcher

What is Physician burnout, and what are the symptoms

Medical student burnout and the risk factors

Is there an association between EMR use and Physician burnout?

I enjoyed it very much, and was told that most doctors need to do research like this anyway. I like the serenity of working in a quiet environment and also the low pressure environment that isn't as prevalent in other parts of a hospital.

Toilets were very nice as well

Today went even better. I started a course on the basics of being a medical researcher and it sounded like something that I would like to do.

I saw blood being taken, and witnessed all of the aseptic techniques that were used and the innovations that were made to minimise the pain - like a retractable needle.

Later, I researched and saw an aortic mechanical valve being replaced due to being leaky - which was really interesting and made me think about surgery as a job.

Today was a bit slower. I did another 4 modules (out of 12) of the HIPPA certification course, which I found really interesting. I am really enjoying this course, because a lot of it builds up on what we covered in biology in the year (hopefully it'll help me next year as well). Then, we analysed patient data. I really enjoyed the data analysis bit and would like to maybe have some part of that in the job I eventually do.

Today was another really fun day. I learnt about adverse events and quality assurance, which was really interesting as it talked about stuff that you never think about medicine, like what type of events are reported and how prisoners and children take part in medical studies. We analysed more patient data and I saw blood being taken again, which I could see closer. One of the patients needed a stool test, which was disgusting when it went back to the lab :(
