This competition is backed by the Harry Singer Foundation and aligned to the SBA (Small Business Administrations) format for writing a business plan, and covers many of the standards for financial literacy, innovation, critical thinking, technological proficiency and college and career readiness.

This is an opportunity for local students 13-25 enrolled in a local high school, community college, trade school or university to participate in a regional challenge and to easily weave project based learning into a course or pathway.

Teen Kitchen Project (TKP, teenkitchenproject.org) is offering upcoming cooking classes for vaccinated youth ages 12-17 at 8061 Aptos St. The instructor is chef Stephany Buswell, a finalist on The Food Network Holiday Baking Championship with 35 years in the baking industry. Classes are limited to 12 students and kids will work in groups of two to four. Topics include Spooktacular Desserts on Oct. 28 (cake-pop eyeballs!) and Thanksgiving Pies (two November dates to choose from, Nov.

12 or Nov.18). Cost is $60-70.

Also, there is a four-day “Holidays Around the World” camp from Dec. 20-23. Non-profit TKP helps teens learn to create nutritious meals in commercial kitchens that are then delivered to people in crisis due to serious illness. Visit teenkitchenproject.org.

Students ages 12 to 18 are invited to create and bring your stories to life at class starting Saturday at the Capitola branch library, 2005 Wharf Road, Capitola.

Students work as part of a team and make friends who share your interests as you explore digital animation software. This free six-week course will walk you through story ideas, storyboarding, animation software, and creating your final video. All equipment and training included.

Classes take place from 1-3 p.m. for six Saturdays at the Capitola Branch Library. Participants must attend each class and registration is required.

What would I do as a Visitor Programs Docent? Teams of volunteers, student employees, and staff work together in our visitor hall to connect the public with the ocean using hands-on, marine science interpretation.  Docents are trained to lead 30-minute tours of Seymour Center and Coastal Science Campus research facilities.
