Dual citizenship is not a step toward world government. Instead, it is just a way for the current system of countries to adapt to a globalized world. The main reason is that dual citizenship actually strengthens the power of individual nations, rather than creating one government above them. People still get all their rights and protection from specific countries (like the US or Germany), not from a global body. Countries only allow it because it benefits them (for example, by keeping ties with citizens living abroad). Since most people in the world do not have dual citizenship, it cannot create the shared global identity needed for a single world government.

The biggest barrier to a world government is the huge gaps in population, economy and military strength among countries. Bound by national laws, dual citizenship cannot break the logic of "national interests first".

From the perspective of safeguarding national sovereignty and social cohesion, I am opposed to dual or multiple citizenship. The essence of citizenship is not only a legal status but also a commitment of loyalty and responsibility to a specific country. Allowing dual or multiple citizenship would blur the boundaries of such loyalty and lead to irreconcilable conflicts when interests are at stake. Moreover, from a social psychological perspective, it may weaken the sense of belonging to the national identity and, in the long run, is not conducive to the consolidation of national identity and internal social unity.

It‘s ok.Based on the practical demands of globalization and talent mobility. As globalization deepens, cross-border work, study, and marriage are becoming increasingly common. For instance, many immigrants maintain deep emotional and cultural ties to their homeland despite long-term residence or even naturalization in their adopted countries. Permitting dual citizenship can attract the return of overseas talent, technology, and capital, thereby promoting economic development.

No, dual or multiple citizenship should not be the first step towards a world government. It Reinforces the Nation-State: it is a multi-national one. It is granted by and reinforces the authority of individual states, which retain the power to decide who belongs. It's about collecting memberships in exclusive clubs, not creating one inclusive one. It Deepens Global Inequality: It is a privilege available almost exclusively to a wealthy elite, rather than uniting humanity, it creates a new class divide between elite and the vast majority of normal people. A genuine first step towards a more unified world would be strengthening global institutions, tackling universal challenges like climate change and poverty through collective action, and fostering a shared sense of human destiny, not creating individual privileges.

Dual and multiple citizenship can be an early step toward more global cooperation, but it does not directly create a single world government. When people hold citizenship in more than one country, they feel less tied to only one nation. This helps them support cross-border cooperation and think more globally instead of focusing only on their own country’s interests.

However, having multiple passports does not build a real world government. A true global system needs common laws, shared rules, and international organizations. Still, dual citizenship makes people get used to the idea of belonging to more than one country. Over time, this can make global unity and cooperation easier to achieve.
