If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Joffe Numeroff is an entertaining read aloud for any reader. The story always keeps you wondering what the mouse will want next. It is fun to make predictions to see if what you think the mouse wants next is correct. This engaging and humorous story will keep my reader's attention as the mouse continues to ask for more and more silly things.

The Three Little Rigs by David Gordon is a twist off of a familiar story. I chose this story for two reasons. First, After my meeting with my student for "Roam the Known", I learned that he enjoys playing with his cars at home. I wanted to incorporate a book with cars in it to keep my student's attention. Second, I thought it could be great to compare this story with the original The Three Little Pigs and The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig. Both of these reasons would allow my reader to focus on the story and engage with the text in a deeper meaningful way.

Alexander and the Wind-Up Mouse by Leo Lionni is an endearing read aloud that engaged my reader in the tale of two friends when I read it to him during our first meeting. A real mouse and a wind-up mouse become friends and talk about how their lives are different from each other. The plot, themes (e.g. friendship) and feelings (e.g. jealousy) play out through the fantasy story that engaged my reader until the very end of the story.

Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman is a fun and engaging read aloud that can also be read as a song. Rhyming, repetition, and action words (e.g. "he pulled and he tugged and he pulled") will help in engaging my student throughout the whole story. With fall being here and Halloween being just around the corner, the story of growing a pumpkin and picking it out off the vine would be relevant. My student would be interested in the content of the book knowing that Halloween is coming soon.

Elmer by David McKee is fun story about laughter. Elmer is a young elephant who looks a little different from the other elephants, but he finds out that he would rather have fun and look colorful than be quiet and look like the rest. The fun narrative filled with laughter will keep the interest of my reader as Elmer goes through the process of realizing that he is awesome just the way that he is. The readers may find themselves engaging in laughter as well.

Ish by Peter H. Reynolds is a endearing read aloud that has a great message. A young boy, Ramon, realizes that when he looks at his drawings in a different way, he can enjoy them more than he did before. This book engages children in the message that things can still be beautiful even when they aren't perfect. I believe that this message will be good for my student. Learning from our first meeting, he seemed to be worried about giving the wrong answer. I believe this story is an engaging way to let him know that all of his ideas can be valuable and important.
