         <description><![CDATA[<div>To be honest, I have not considered what specific job I would like to pursue once I completed the Higher Education degree.  I entered the program knowing it was the field I was currently in and thought it wouldn’t be detrimental to pursue it.  After doing a quick review of positions having the master’s opens up for me, I am interested in becoming a dean.  Perlmutter (2018) provides wonderful insights into making the transition into being an administrator and continuing to be successful in the position.  One of the most valuable pieces of advice given was to learn about your predecessors successes and failures.  Being privy to this will aid in emulating positive qualities and avoid dowfalls.  Another good practice to perform is to follow up with other administrators at the institution and ask for advice.  This could be helpful with also learning political and procedural ways.  Knowing what is expected of you and having prior knowledge of your responsibilities is vital to performing successfully.  Being the right fit for the job can be as important as performing your job responsibilities.  Staying up to date about campus culture and the type of students that are being serviced is essential to being in touch with the campus population.  I would like to be out of touch with who I am working for and not be distant as some administrators appear to be.</div><div><br></div><div>Perlmutter, D.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Since I am already working in an administrative role in higher education, I am hoping my Master’s Degree will help to elevate/promote me to a higher position. Ideally, I would like to stay in the Graduate Admission area. However, I would also be interested in positions related to academic programs (such as overseeing a program, or advising for a program) or student-life. Regardless of the department, as I continue to advance I think I would need to do following:<br><br></div><ul><li>Monitoring quantitative data to plan for the future- see what worked, what didn’t, analyze processes and results to make improvements</li><li>Working with other campus leaders to collaborate- understanding how we are interconnected, and how we can work together to improve </li><li>Oversee a team of people- at the moment, I do not have anyone working below me so it will be a big step for me to have individuals report to me</li><li>Work on a more a formal, professional attitude- I started my current position at a young age, and have a wonderful relationship with my colleagues. However, when I become a leader at a higher level I know that I will need to present myself more formally and seriously </li><li>Seek mentorship, advice and guidance from leadership, particularly women who have experience and expertise to offer</li></ul><div><br></div><div>Per the Myers-Briggs test, I have an ISTJ Personality. This was not at all surprising for me as I consider myself to be logical, organized, a fact seeker and preferring introversion to extroversion. Interestingly, when I tell people that I consider myself an introvert they are shocked. I guess I appear to be an extrovert, but deep down I prefer working alone rather than interacting with others. Since I am so realistic, another area I should work on as I continue my career is empathy for other's thoughts and emotions. I plan to work on encouraging others to innovate and create. I work well with others who have more of that type of personality as we can both offer differing perspectives to situations and counterbalance each other. </div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I would be at the third phase of my career when I graduate from my Master’s degree.  I hope to seek an administrative position in either program assessment or academic affairs in the current institution I am in. The first phase at my current employment was to be a full-time faculty. This allowed me to see first-hand what actually happens in the classrooms. The second phase was to be a coordinator of a program. This is where I saw how much had to be done to make teaching and learning more efficient and relevant. I am quite familiar with the culture of the college and hope to focus on many internal challenges. <br><br></div><div>a.      There is a huge push for data driven decision making in institutions. I would like to utilize the data from various departments to make policies and decisions. And ofcourse discontinue the collection of irrelevant data. </div><div>b.     I would encourage more employees to be involved in the decision-making process of departments. This way they can “own” projects and have accountability. </div><div>c.      I will invest in the faculty by requiring them to attend a professional development activity at least once every year. </div><div>d.     I will promote mentorship for new faculty and advocate for departments to organize venues for colleagues to get to know each other.</div><div>e.      I will make sure that meetings are done on a regular schedule and limited to only 1 hour.<br><br></div><div> <br><br></div><div>After taking the Myers-Briggs personality, it came to no surprise that I was an ISTJ. It definitely shows in the way I work. It even it shows in the things I mentioned above. I definitely struggle in dealing with people who complain too much and yet do nothing about it.  I am not organizational savvy. I stay away from colleagues who are all talk. I think that at a certain point in one’s career you can distinguish the reliable employees from the anecdotal ones. Time is so important to be wasted on irrelevant banter or gossip. <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I currently do not work in the higher education field. I aspire to get a position soon (before I graduate this spring) so that I become more accumulated with the field. My long term goal is to work with integrating higher education into correctional education programs. I would like to oversee such a program where inmates are given the opportunity to enroll in college courses. On the other hand, I am interested in working to help incoming high school students become accumulated with college life. Perhaps a role in college advisement or in an educational opportunity fund program. Before starting in these roles I would definitely need the following:</div><div><br></div><ul><li>Seek mentorship, and advisement from a senior leader, preferably a woman</li><li>Doing more research on prison education programs. This is a broad field and therefore I want to fine-tune my direct goals/mission.</li><li>Learn more about the culture of higher education (current role as an elementary school educator) because there are many different levels, student demographics, policies to adhere to. </li><li>Learn more about the specific duties/responsibilities of the roles that I am seeking to move into the near future. </li><li>Lastly, to give back all the knowledge and guidance that will be given to me, and help someone else who is trying to enter the world of higher education.</li></ul><div><br>After taking the Myers-Briggs test the outcome was INFP. I am not surprised at the result,  because I take great pride in working for a cause that is overlooked. People with INFP personality are mediators and try to always find a hint of good in the worst situations. I am very optimistic and believe that there is a solution to everything. I carry this over into my professional life specifically working with younger kids. I think this characteristic will definitely aid in my future roles working with students from various demographics. </div><div><br></div><div><br></div>]]></description>
