More bacteria is found on the plastic water fountain nosel because of the amount of colonies on the toilet seat contact square versus the amount of colonies on the water nosel. There is about 5 bacteria colonies on the toilet seat compared to over 20 bacteria colonies on the nosel contact point.

It is more likely to find bacteria on the water fountain nosel because everyone's hands touch that plastic surface. Students tend to get drinks after they use the bathroom which may add to more bacteria colonies on the nosel. As well, your fingertips are very oily which also leads to the increased bacteria colonies.

Bacteria tend to be found on the places where contact is made the most because every surface you touch, you are leaving bacteria behind and picking up new bacteria. They get to their locations by moving with their flagella and by transportation of people or animals.
