However, the invasion did not go well: The invaders were badly outnumbered by Castro’s troops, and they surrendered after less than 24 hours of fighting. Reagan announces the Strategic Defense Initiative which would later become known as star wars. The idea was to make nuclear missiles or missiles of any kind obsolete, thus ending the arms race between the Soviet Union and the US.
