Firstly, you need to ensure they are comfortable in the classroom and with you. Next, you should model it for them every day. Thirdly, help them be confident in themselves and their needs! Give them multiple opportunities to tell you what they need. Constantly ask them so that eventually they will do it on their own.

A student needs to be able to communicate their needs because only they know what is working for them. Only they understand what works for them. Now we could run with an intervention and find out on testing if it isn't working, but if the student can tell us it is not working or what they need, we can help them sooner.

Most Powerful Accommodation

The most powerful accommodation you can give your student is time. Time is =one of the things we normally put a limit on, and that limit is based on the majority and normally is a stressor for most.
