"I was three years old, I was standing on a chair in front of the stove wearing a pink dress that stuck out like a tutu. At the moment I was wearing the dress to cook hot dogs, wathcing them swell and bob in the boiling water. I could hear Mom in the next room singing while working on one of her paintings. Juju, our black mutt was wathcing me. I stabbed one of the hot dogs with a fork."

"All dad said to me was keep your legs crossed, honey, and keep em crossed tight. After Dad had taken him for about eighty bucks, Robbie started muttering angirly to himself. He snapped down the cue chalk setting up a puff of blue powder, and missed the final shot. He flung his cue on the table and announced he had enough, then he sat down next to me. His eyes wear blearly. He kept saying he couldnt believe that old fart had beat him out of eighty bucks, as if he couldn't decide whether he was pissed off or impressed. Then he told me he lived in an apartment over the bar. He had a Roy Acuff record that wasn't on the juke box, and he wanted us to go upstairs and listen to it. If all he wanted to do was dance some more and maybe kiss a little, I could handle that. But I had the feeling he thought he was entitled to something in return for loosing so much money. Im not sure, I said. Aw, come on, he said and shouted at Dad. im going to take your girl upstairs. Sure dad said just dont do anything I wouldnt do he pointed his pool cue at me. Holler if you need me"

" I had just turned eighteen. I quit my job at the hamburger joint the next day and became a full-time reporter for The Pheonix. I'd never been happier in my life. I worked 90 hours a week, my telephone rang constantly, I was always hurrying off to interviews and checking the ten dollar Rolex I'd bought on the street to make sure i wasn't running late rushing back to file my copy, and staying up untill 4 am to set type when the typrsetter quit. ANd i was bringing $125 a week if the check cleared.

"They're convinced there so special that they dont need to follow the rules other people have to follow, she said, like presneting their school records when they enroll in a new school. She look at me and raised her eyebrows meaningfully. Who thinks thats not fair? she asked the class. All the kids except me raised there hands. I see our new student doesn't agree, she said. Perhaps you would like to explain yourself? I was sitiing in the second-to-last row. The students turned their heads to stare. I decided to dazzle them with the awnser from ergo game. Insufficient infromation to draw a conclusion. Oh really? Miss Caparossi asked. Is that what they say in a big city like Pheonix.
