Since John Scopes was a believer in evolution he agreed to do it. The trial became media central and Scopes was defended by America's top criminal lawyer Clarence Darrow. Famous politician and creationist William Jennings Bryan assisted in the prosecution. This trial was the first live broadcast-ed trial on radio in American history. The trial ended in a conviction for Scopes, in which he was fined 100$. After the trial Scopes went on to get a masters degree of geology at the University of Chicago. After this he became a Petroleum engineer in Venezuela.

He simply took the blame to push a trial that would make national news and be extremely famous as a trial. So while not a famous educator, he was important for pushing the teaching of evolution in schools.
