He wanted to end their relationship so he invited her out. Apollo challenged her to prove her archery skill by hitting a far away target. Artemis accepted and took the shot hitting it perfectly. She later realizes that the target was Orion's head and as she is grieving his death she places his body in the stars as a constellation.
