  • Vedas- contain scriptures of Hinduism, they are considered "Author-less".
  • Upanishads- contain the central philosophical concepts and ideas of wisdom, some shared with other religions like Buddhism. 

    • They are both the big sacred texts of Hinduism, they are other small texts but these are the major ones in Hinduism that are well known to people today still recite.

  • The Aum is the most sacred symbol associated with Hinduism
  • The Aum represents Brahman (which is described as the impersonal absolute of Hinduism and the source of  all manifest  existence)
  • Many Hindus make it a priority to say "Aum" when starting their day as a form of "good luck"
  • Most Hindus wear Aums as pendants and they are incorporated in jewelry and accessories
  • The Aum is believed to be a symbol that includes the past, present, and the future in the sound of the name and that all three forms of time are in it
  •  "om" or "aum' is often chanted during meditation which creates a bodily vibration that flows in sync with the cosmic vibration. This explains why "Aum" isnt considered a word but an intonation or chant.

    * There was a new type of worship known as Bhakti it spread across the Indian Subcontinent.
    * Buildings/Temples were built for specific gods that hold a sacred symbol, which were decorated with sculpture figures, which left some space for worshipers to leave offers and perform rituals like bathing and dancing by professional women.     Avatars of Vishnu- Gods who came down to earth to restore order, two well know avatars would be Rama and Krishna.
    Saraswati- Goddess of learning, worshiped as the goddess of learning,wisdom,speech, and music.
    Indra- King of heaven and lord of gods, wields thunderbolts.

  • In Hinduism, hell is not eternal. People who have sinned greatly are sent to hell to purify their souls to that they can be reincarnated.
  • Time in hell depends on the severity of an individuals sins.
  • Hell is ruled by Yama, the God of Death.

    *When it comes to gender roles, males were the ones with more power than women because women are meant to only be wives and worship their husbands. Women's roles were minimal in Hinduism Society because they need to be controlled by men in order for them to succeed in life.
    * Hinduism social class is called caste system that assigns certain people and groups by birth. (Not by personalities). Hinduism only has four stages of social class which are Brahmin, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and Shrudas. There was is also a fifth stage but its not commonly mentioned and is the lowest hierarchy.
    *They are called the untouchables, they are outcasts, street sweepers, and Katrine cleaners.
