The song "You Found Me" performed by The Fray is written by the lead singer of the band, Isaac Slade. The song is about the disappointment, heartache, and letdown that comes with life. Isaac was trying to reach the people that are going through rough circumstances and don't know why. He wrote this while pondering why bad things happen to good people after seeing his friends go through crises as well as going through some rough things himself. He was trying to show his targeted audience that they're not alone during these unfortunate events and that they should always have hope.

S:Someone who is wondering why bad things happen to them. They were wondering why these things happened to them and asked God.
O: No occasion.
A: The audience is anyone who has had bad events happen to them or is going through rough times and doesn't know why, and is wondering why.
P: The purpose of the video is to show people that they're not alone in what they go through. The bad events happening to people in the video does its job by showing the audience they're not alone.
S: The subject of this video is simply just the unfortunate events that occur in peoples lives.
Tone: The tone is sad and somber again as the video shows Isaac sad himself a lot of the time. The video also shows a woman getting carried off on a stretcher which darkens the tone of the video.

Isaac is trying to convince his audience that they're not alone in what they're going through; he is showing the audience that life comes with disappointment and heartache for everyone. Isaac uses the methods of pathos and ethos in the lyrics to do this; also, Isaac uses the methods of pathos and ethos to do so in the music video as well. These fit well with his goal as he is trying to provoke emotion in the audience. He uses his own credibility while trying to persuade the audience that they are no where near alone in their struggles. Overall, these appeals are very effective in getting the message across to the audience.

Lost and insecure
You found me, you found me

These lyrics infer that Isaac was going through some rough things and was feeling very insecure. These lyrics stir emotion in the audience, and promote pity from the audience as well.

Where were you when everything was fallin' apart?

This line shows how Isaac didn't feel like anyone was there for him, not even God. This line makes the audience sad as they feel bad for Isaac; however, it gives the audience comfort because it shows them they are not alone when they feel like this themselves.

I've been callin' for years and years and years and years
And you never left me no messages, you never sent me no letters

These lines infer how Isaac was waiting for an answer from God on why all these bad things happen to good people. Isaac didn't get an answer and it makes you feel bad for him.

Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late

The repetition in the phrase "Where were you" show how desperate he is. Isaac wanted an answer and help badly; however, God wasn't there or didn't do what Isaac wanted. This makes the audience emotional and full of pity for him.

In the end, everyone ends up alone

When Isaac says this he is trying to convince the audience that everyone has problems and that they're not alone in them. Isaac himself has been through issues, and so has his friends. Therefore, Isaac is credible to speak on it and the credibility he has gives the audience confidence that they're not alone.

All my days were spent by the telephone
That never rang and all I needed was a call

These lines really appeal to the ethos characteristic because the audience can relate to it very easily. Isaac was not speaking literally but rather that he was waiting on an answer from God about all these awful things happening to undeserving people. The relatability of this line helps Isaac to effectively get his point across to the audience and convince them that they are not alone in their troubles.

In conclusion, Isaac was able to successfully deliver his message to the audience. He used the appeals of pathos and ethos to do this in both the lyrics, and the video as well. In the lyrics Isaac uses lines that trigger emotion and show disappointment, these show the audience that he struggles and that they aren't alone. The music video uses incidents and events that are very heart-wrenching. These incidents show the audience that they aren't alone and that they should never give up.
