Leadership Success Team

This year, I am the team lead for the Leadership Success Team. The focus of this team is to provide students with opportunities to gain and demonstrate leadership skills. The goal for the Leadership Team this year is to host class expositions in place of one night of parent teacher conferences. Basically, each class creates a student-led exhibit of the units/skills/concepts within that given class. Students then get to present the class to any people that come up to that class booth during the exposition. Another school I worked at did this and it was amazing to see the community come together to support students and students take pride in the classes they took.

Education Courses

I am excited to graduate this May from the current Master's program here at GCU! I hope to continue to do well in my courses and learn all that I can before graduating. I have also already looked into how I can obtain 18 credit hours in graduate level English classes, so that I can teach college level classes at the high school I work at.

Technology Training

I would love to attend and learn more about AI. Some benefits of AI within the classroom are that it allows for more "personalized learning", specifically within an English classroom it can support students with learning vocabulary words and helping teachers create lessons that are based on state standards (The University of Iowa, 2024). AI can be an effective tool when used appropriately.

Peer Collaboration

Working at a small school, I am the only high school English teacher within the building. However, the middle school English teacher and I have talked about working together to create a new curriculum! I am very excited about this and hope we can collaborate on making an amazing curriculum for our students. Collaboration provides many benefits, such as "sharing insights" and "create cohesive plans" (The importance of teacher collaboration, 2024). I always appreciate time working with my fellow teachers.
