As an educator, we should always bear in mind our influences on children. The influences can be short-term, long-term, positive or negative. Therefore, the way we act and say as well as how we interact with them will impact their development. Here is the quote that I want to share here:

"A teacher affects eternity; he/she can never tell where his influence stops."

This is similar to this quote from the book "Clearly, the importance of the teacher-child relationship for a needy child [I would say, any child] is paramount in effecting the development of cognition as well as emotional well-being" (Koplow in Jacobson, 2008, p. 24).

I like this quote because we can only create a positive emotional environment for children if we have a positive relationship with them. As an ECE it is our duty to protect the children from emotional harm that will affect their learning and emotional competency as they grew up and become adults. Everything that we do and say influences the child's behavior inside the classroom. Our emotions influence the child's emotions as well. So, creating a positive emotional environment for them starts within us. The power is in us.

My favorite quote from the book is,
“We have never really needed research to tell us that children’s social-emotional development affects their academic success and emotional competence” (Jacobson, 2008, p. 18).
It means children who feel good about themselves are more confident, more focused to achieve their goals, and successful in their professional careers in the future compared to the children who are sad, anxious, angry, and confused. 
It shows how social-emotional development is important in early childhood education. As an ECE it is our main focus to understand the child's emotions and respond to them effectively. It is very important for their well-being.
