One device I am experienced with is a communication device. I have worked with students with communication disorders and who require a device to communicate their needs. Some students who are nonverbal are able to use an individualized communication device that they use to make requests, express their feelings, respond to academic questioning, etc. Without such devices, many of our students with communication disorders would not be able to succeed in the classroom or within the community.

Assistive technology is any item that is used either as it intended or with modification that assists the functions of those with disabilities. Assistive technology service assists in the selection, attainment, or use of AT for a child. Although I have not seen this mentioned in any of our books I am throwing this idea out there as it has been very helpful with my own children. We use noise-canceling headphones to help with concentration efforts. This is a very effective way for my kids to work on the tasks required of them without the distraction of others.

Assistive technology is any type of object to help an individual access the environment and/or be able to function in that environment. One device that many of my students use within my classroom is called co-writer, which is a word prediction software. This allows my students who are diagnosed with a learning disability in written expression, to be able to write lengthy compositions. They login to a computer and access a word document, they plug in the USB that has the software on it, then they start typing. You type in one letter and the top 5 words that start with that letter pop up. If the word tat you want is on the list, you click it and it types it for you. If not, you type in the next letter of the word and more options pop up. Once you have a word typed, it will auto predict words that make sense to come next that you can chose or you can start typing your own. This has helped my students tremendously be able to write stories where otherwise they would only be able to write a few sentences.

Assistive technology is one way that individuals with learning disabilities have been able to overcome the difficulties with comprehension that they possess. This form of technology comes in many forms, ranging from low to high technology devices.
These devices, some as simple as a highlighter, help to organize and keep on track the individual with a learning disability. Assistive technology has many benefits to a student and helps individuals to compensate in their studies to be able to achieve all that they can in their school career.

There were over 25 different categories including things like: needs, greetings, people, places, holidays, etc. It might seem outdated with the use of iPads, but I thought it would be good to have at least one hard copy that could be used when iPads are limited.

AT can benefit a child with disability in many ways. AT helps students adjust to their own personal way of learning. If a child needs hearing assistance, then he will receive hearing 🤬, or if a child has trouble writing they he will receive pencil grips.
