Shown in this picture is one of the stone tablets telling the Epic of Gilgamesh. This was a long story detailing the adventures, accomplishments, and eventual defeat of a demi-god named Gilgamesh. This also can be seen as an example of what the people of Mesopotamia thought to be an "ideal society". In Mesopotamia, the ideas of polytheism and animism played big roles in the lives of citizens. From the story, Gilgamesh was the ruler of a Mesopotamian city-state, and is regarded as the most famous hero in all of Mesopotamia. While he was considered a ruthless, tyrant ruler, the story itself represents how the Mesopotamians believed in the power of their Gods and thought that an ideal society should be ruled by a divine king.

Shown in this picture is a piece of writing that contains the introduction to the Odyssey. The Odyssey, similar to the Epic of Gilgamesh, was a long story recounting the events of the Trojan war and Odysseus' journey home afterwards. The Odyssey is believed to be the sequel to the Iliad, another long story talking about the events of the Trojan war. The Odyssey is a good example to show different ideas that the ancient Greeks would consider in their ideal society. The ancient Greeks were polytheistic and this is reflected all throughout the Odyssey, where the protagonist Odysseus faces many different enemies, all sent to him by the God Poseidon. To the Ancient Greeks, an ideal society should appeal to the Gods. If the Gods are angered (Odysseus killed Poseidon's son), then life would become very difficult.
