Children can have very different skill levels and expectations around art, which can make it harder to manage as a group.

Colleen

I enjoy leading most with children doing Christmas activities, seeing all the children happy and looking forward to learning Christmas theme crafts. They have fine motor skills, scissor skills. Having a couple of staff around to help each kid, having patience, and I find it so much easier.

The most challenging part of doing activities to lead are art activities, with paint as I struggle with it as well! So I sometimes will get staff to step in while I help along with the children!

Megan

Which activities do you most enjoy leading with children? Which activities are the most challenging to lead?

I enjoy leading activities like “find the items” using a coloured dice. In this activity, we take turns rolling the dice and calling out the colour. The preschoolers then look around the classroom or playroom to find items that match that colour.

This activity supports several areas of development. It helps with cognitive development as children think and make connections between colours and objects. It also supports language development when they name the colours and objects they find. Socially, children learn to take turns and participate as a group. Physically, they are moving around the room, which supports their gross motor skills.

For the most challenging activities, I really don’t think i have any in mind.

-Jocelyn

I enjoyed leading activities such as colouring and finding the same colour. For example, I would use the coloured pictures on the wall and ask the children to find something in the classroom that matched that colour or bring me an object that was the same. The children always enjoyed these activities. However, the most challenging activities to lead were painting and cutting out shapes to glue together. The children often put glue on their hands, and with painting, they would usually end up getting paint everywhere.

Ada

Which activities are the most challenging to lead?

I really enjoy painting or colouring with the children, i love helping the children learn their fine motor skills. We like to start off painting with a brush or sponge then we move onto our hands, we love a little bit of messy play. Some activities i find challenging would be sitting in a circle activities such as reading or games because the children don’t like to sit for long (unless its snack or lunch)

Shalyne
