My first time glam camping was in the Sahara desert where there were actual beds to sleep in in the tents and a toilet tent bathroom! What a way to sleep under the stars :)

That week is the only time I’ve spent in South America. We spent time in Buenos Aires and the Cordoba Mountains. I think we also went to the beach in Paraguay. I became friends with the macho family patriarch, who said I could call him his childhood nickname his English nanny gave him, "Freddy"!

I have random, unlabeled things in the freezer that have gotten lost under other things. I took out what I thought was frozen broth.

It was not broth. It was gravy.

Some people would have made other plans for dinner that night. I did not! I used the gravy. 3/10 would not recommend.

It is probably the strangest job I’ve had. I’ve searched more people and cars than I care to remember, and found the weirdest of things. I also learned that even wholesome looking grandparents can be drug smugglers and that most people are terrible liars, keep gross things in their vehicles, and rarely properly store weapons. I also learned not to be a jerk to the Customs Agents – they are just doing their jobs, but can drag a search out for hours if you anger them. But the most valuable thing I learned from that job is how to pack a car. My theory: clown cars are just full of CBSA agents.

It was fun, but not as much fun as the tandem jump I did a few years later. During the tandem jump, I saw a full circular rainbow in the clouds at 8000 feet! There was no gold though.

I am terrible at languages, but as a child, could speak back to my grandfather when he would teach me (there were two languages other than English). As an adult, I have almost given up on learning languages, but have noticed that I can speak to squirrels. My spouse says that speaking with squirrels shouldn’t go on my resume, and there’s no way of proving my competency. He has a point.

One time, a fully wild wolf at a wildlife sanctuary I was visiting saw me, bounded across its large enclosure and stared right at me. I ended up petting her through the bars! I still have a photo with that wolf (taken by my very nervous friend, who doubtless thought I was going to get my hand eaten).

Instead of actually going to the movies, we went skydiving and jumped off a plane 13,000 feet from the sky. Wired on adrenaline, we came back home with our rehearsed movie reviews and acted as if didn’t just risk our lives and increase our life insurance premiums.

P.s. My parents ended up finding out three days later and now feel anxious whenever I say “I’m going to the movies.” Lol.
