It is fair to give a preferential option to one group over another as long as it’s fair and it strives for equality. For example, poor and vulnerable people need resources more than rich people as they have less money. In most countries, a government can make everyone pay the same amount of tax. This is unfair as some people make a lot of money and some people barely make enough to sustain their hunger. This would also leave many in debt, which leads to homelessness. In Conclusion it is fair to put one group over another if its goal is to model Chirst’s love. Jesus said that "Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me. ”

A concrete way to show daily respect for Earth is through recycling, conserving water, and using public transportation or bicycles. Recycling involves repurposing used items, reducing waste and pollution. Simply placing recyclables in the bin can make a difference. Conserving water minimizes the need for extraction and treatment; practices like taking shorter showers and turning off taps help. Using public transport shares carbon emissions among many, lowering overall emissions, while biking produces no emissions at all.

This means that their working conditions need to not have harmful chemicals and if there are they have to have specific safety guidelines to keep them safe. We tend to idolize and look up to rich and successful people, which results in us thinking that the poor and vulnerable are worth less. Because they don’t have as much money, we as a society don’t value them as much.

What about the Church’s teaching on the rights of workers surprises you most? Why?

Nothing surprised me from the Church’s teaching because everything was logical
They made sure to include lots of details about why workers should have the right to fair wages and safe working conditions.
They also made sure to mention that society must have economic justice and that the economy must serve people and not the other way around.
I think that was very important to write because some people probably wouldn’t have treated their workers right without that information.

Costco

Costco offers some of the highest wages in retail
Their benefits apply to part-time and full-time employees. Their employees get health and dental insurance.
Costco promotes many managers and executives within the company making it a good company to grow with.

Shein

Workers often receive wages that are not enough for them to be able to support basic needs.
Reports indicate that factory conditions are often unsafe, with limited concern for worker health and safety.
Employees often face long hours and minimal worker protections.

At some workplaces there could be a pyramid of levels like a boss then a manager then just regular employees.
Sometimes the boss or manager can act like a superior and be rude to lower levels for no reason. This can make lower levels feel very lost or feel like they have less dignity.
Some thing’s we can do is promote through social media how in the workplace there are plenty of people being mistreated.
If we promote this more people with bigger authority will be aware and change the situation.

In Afghanistan, women and girls have their rights taken away.
Laws that prevent women from basic rights to freedom of expression, liberty, work and education.
Afghans who protest for their rights are being threatened, arrested and tortured.
Our community needs to stand in solidarity with them. We can do this by donating to charities and raising awareness for these women and girls who need our help.

Bike to work/school as it doesn't damage Earth, which is God's creation, and promotes exercise and self-care, which is also God's creation. Take walks in the woods and go on hikes. Going on walks and enjoying the scenery is a way of showing gratitude towards the earth. Eating healthy food is a way of healthy living and caring for yourself. Going outside and getting away from technology and connecting with others is a way of expressing your gratitude to God's creation as you interact with other people.

-Most people have things going on in their lives, a job, family, friends and other life events. Some people just don't have the time to think about this kind of stuff in their day to day lives. Stereotypes and prejudice are also a big thing in our society and it’s a barrier in our society making people less likely to want to recognize the fact that everyone is a child of god and recognizing dignity and worth of others.

One of the news stories I've heard in the last few weeks is that North Korea is sending troops to Ukraine to help Russia win the war.
This poses harm to the human dignity of the Ukrainian people because innocent people are being killed and treated without any respect or human dignity.
They are being killed because Russia wants the land, North Korea is fueling the fire by sending troops to do even more damage.

The rights most important to me are rights, responsibilities, family, community, and participation. The rights that I think are the most important to people in poverty are rights like the right to live since they’re usually neglected and stereotyped. All they want is to be treated right, so they want to have the same rights. Just because they might not have a home doesn’t mean they aren’t humans, it means that the situation they were in, whether running away from home because of abusive parents or being caught in a house fire, was bad enough to become homeless. It isn’t fair that something they couldn’t control sets the future they live in. That’s why organizations with shelters like the Ottawa Mission are important; they have a location for the homeless to live and give food to them, being able to care for them so can live in their situation better.

Human dignity is related to human rights because they both strive towards giving every person equal rights and responsibilities. Both are focused on respect for humans because they are human when they are given equal human rights. People respect you and just from being human you have dignity and should be respected. These are related to options for the poor and vulnerable because human dignity and rights both call for the respect of others, option for the poor and vulnerable also calls us to help give dignity and respect treating people who have less equality to everybody else. In conclusion, human rights calls for equality, human dignity calls for respect and options for the poor and vulnerable calls for both in our decisions to help the poor.

Another thing people can practice is having more empathy towards people in certain situations, actively listening to people and doing your best to resolve conflict.
One of the more important things you can practice is to lead a good example for people to follow by demonstrating respect and human dignity which can inspire others to do the same.

We can fulfill the call to be stewards of creation by practicing sustainability. Reducing our use of fossil fuels and one-use plastic are ways we can contribute to sustainability. Plastics and fossil fuels dramatically impact the environment and cause climate change at an irreversible rate.
