Text to self:
This passage:”my granddaughter had a cold just a few days before Christmas”, reminds me of last year’s Christmas. It wasn’t my granddaughter, of course, but my niece who got sick. It was just a few days before Christmas and my family got very worried. I chose this part of the book, because I remember how, me too, just like Mrs. Henry, was hoping that my niece, Lianne, would get better before Christmas and we would spend it as a family.

After meeting his dad, Steve felt terrible and admits that he didn’t kill Mr. Nesbitt and neither took money from him. In some flashbacks, we see the moments where Steve is running away from two women talking about the robbery and then, at his house, news about the robbery and the murder were on TV and he’s completely shocked. About two weeks after the robbery, two state officers come and handcuff Steve to take him away. His mother is confused and her son as well. Back on trial, Petrocelli is using her cheap trick: she’s trying to give the jurors a bad image of Steve by handing them photographs of Mr. Nesbitt dead. Steve also admitted that he was part of the robbery just to look though in front of Bobo, Osvaldo and King. Also, we found out that the cause of death of Mr. Nesbitt is quite simple, he basically drowned in his own blood. One of his friends in jail, Sunset, got his verdict: guilty and it made Steve even more scared. He’s also very scared about all the violence in that horrible place. In one of the fights, a guy was stabbed in the eye but it didn’t even stop the other one to hit him even harder. His mom told him a very sweet thing: “No matter what anybody says, I know you’re innocent. As well, we figure out that Steve was only a lookout in the robbery and that it was King who killed the 55 year-old drugstore owner, Mr. Nesbitt. Steve likes to watch movies in jail because it’s the closest thing to reality. The prosecutions star witness was Lorelle Henry. The murder happened the 22 of December, right before Christmas. Bobo Evans comes on the stand and says that he pleads guilty of planning the robbery but not killing Mr. Nesbitt because he can get a better sentence that way. We also find out that when King and Bobo entered the shop they didn’t have a gun and that King was high when he did it. Bobo dénies Osvaldo’s testimony and says that he never forced him to be part of the robbery.
