"Web platforms have made it so anyone can distribute anything online. They’ve also shortened the distance between making something and remixing it; between distorting other people’s original work and just copying it outright ("When a 'remix' is just plain ol' Plagiarism", Adrienne Lafrance)."
In this article, Lafrance discusses one of the cons of the remix. She claims that sometimes a remix can be a fresh new outlook on a previous work of art. However, sometimes, it can be a result of a complete lack of creativity on the remix's creator.
Many people claimed that Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby" was a complete rip-off of David Bowie's "Under Pressure". He agues that one differentiation in the melody prohibits it from being the same tune. Although technically he's right, many people disagree and thing that he was merely a cheap hack.

Listen to the subtle difference in the melody. One can see that they're slightely different. Although if one was the simply listen to the instrumental or the intro alone, it would be difficult to differentiate the two from one another.

Other remixes are unapologetically a remix of a particular song. Kid Cudi, in his song "The Prayer", does an excellent remix on Band of Horses song "The Funeral".

Simon Langford, in his article "The Business Remix:Part 1", argues that remixing is a tough business that requires a lot of skill. He says, "In the world of the superstar DJ and superstar remixer, the fees commanded by the remixer can often exceed the advance paid by the record company to sign the record in the first place! And with an ever‑increasing diversity of musical genres to deal with, the need for remixes becomes greater than ever. And yet it is, perhaps surprisingly, a very competitive industry, and one which it takes a great deal of effort, and determination — not to mention luck — to get into."

One person that was extremely successful with making a remix of a song was the rapper Cardi B. Her song, "Bodak Yellow", topped the Billboards in 2017. Although it was a complete plagiarism of the melody of "No Flockin" By Kodak Black. She was even more successful than the original.
