Industrialization is the process from which civilization transitioned from handmade products, to humans who work machines into creating products. Natural sources were critical, they were needed more than anything. Women and children began to work, but the work was in the worst conditions. They were at risk of many diseases. Factories released too much pollution, the air was dangerous.

This event had great significance for the US. Economics rose in marvelous ways. People from all around migrated to the US, wealth had started to increase and soon health and sanitation began to get more attention. The world was slowly getting into a safe and healthy environment.

Rene was a French physician and musician. He was best known for creating the stethoscope. It is used to hear the beat of the heart, lungs, and intestinal tract. The stethoscope is a common tool that all doctors are required to obtain.

If he had not come up with his invention, diagnosis would be harder to point out. Listening to the heart beat would be very difficult so abnormal heart rhythms would not even be discovered in the human body, lives would be shorter. Rene helped with being able to hear the internal body.

Dix was an American Nurse. She is best known for treating the mentally ill and the expansion of many hospitals for those with mental illnesses. Dix was against the idea that the people containing a mental illness could not be helped or live a normal life.

She had an extreme significance marked. She was the one who believed people with mental disturbances could be helped when the rest of the world sought them as outcasts. Had she not founded hospitals, those with mental illnesses would most likely start to be seen as people controlled by demons.

Ignaz was a Hungarian physician and scientist who was best known for a pioneer for antiseptic procedures and the father of infection control. He uncovered the procedure of disinfecting before hands-on care would decrease the rate of disease spread.

He has an incredible significance. Ignaz prevented the spread of disease, without his discovery diseases would spread rapidly. The earth's population would be far less than what it is now due to deaths caused by illnesses being spread because of poor sanitation.

Dr. William was an American dentist and physician. He is best known for giving the first successful surgical operation on a patient with anesthesia. The patient felt no pain during the operation. Although he was not the first person to use anesthesia, he was the one who performed with it successfully.

His significance will always be recognized. People experiencing tough pain during surgery will kill them more than if they are under anesthesia. The world would rather ignore required surgeries to live life than to feel the excruciating pain they will feel for hours. Being numb and asleep is also safer because the body won't jerk in pain, it is easier to save lifes.

Nightingale was an English statistician. She is known as the founder of modern nursing. Her most important contribution was implementing the modern day hospital care precautions. She also had an important role during the Crimean War. Nightingale had to gather 34 nurses to aid those injured or ill.

Her importance throughout the Crimean War will never be forgotten. She helped many fallen soldiers. She also gathered an extraordinarily amount of data of medical such as diseases and deaths. Without the help of her findings, an exceedingly amount of medical knowledge would not be found until many years later or possibly not ever.

Elizabeth Blackwell was a British American physician. She is best known for being the first female to become a qualified doctor. Another thing she accomplished was training nurses during the Civil War for the Union Army. She had begun her interest in medicine after a friend of hers was passing and stated that her life would have been spared had her doctor been a female.

Her most important contribution and the reason it is so significant is her role in women being accepted into the medical field. Women today would not be able to join medicine studies due to sexism. All doctors would be males without thinking that there could be at least a few women who are better for patient and medical care. Men would keep trying to overpower women and then call them weak for not trying, but truth is, women will always be stronger than men because they are more analytical.

Louis was a French chemist and microbiologist. He is best known for creating the pasteurization process which kills all microbes in food goods. Louis was also the first to discover and demonstrate that not only do diseases come from air droplets but through microbes.

His contributions were very significant because if he hadn't discovered that diseases are caused by microbes, then the doctors would be giving false treatment and going into the wrong direction on figuring out the root cause of diseases.

Joseph was a British surgeon who is best known for knowing how to block off diseases during a medical procedure. Joseph's system of infection control is the foundation of today's system.

The number one reason his contributions are so incredibly important is because his procedures and principles saved thousands of lives, including modern day's. Many people have been saved from getting infections during the procedure because of Joseph. People would have continued to keep dying and the life expectancy would have been kept short, but Joseph stepped up.

An urban place is when the population of that place skyrockets. Thousands of people had migrated to the US. The world saw new opportunities that they would not get in their home land. They also saw the advancement the US was undergoing.

Urbanization had its significance, but they were extremely tough years. The people were all cramped and tiny homes, they could not afford bigger places. In the end, the workers were the ones who helped shape the US into the country it is now. The workers did a fantastic job, though they were under the worst conditions, they will be honored. The US would be plain lands of soil if it weren't for those workers

The Cholera Epidemic started when a ship boarded to Quebec and brought the disease. The cholera is an infectious disease that occurs when a person eats or drinks something that is contaminated with cholera bacteria. This diseases had killed over thousands of people in a short period of time.

The significance of this epidemic is that people soon learned to be more careful over sanitation rather than acting carelessly. They learned to not lack on the healthcare system but to treat those infected and create remedies to help.

Robert was a German Physician and microbiologist. He is best known for discovering tuberculosis bacterium. Robert concluded that there was a specific germ that caused certain diseases so he experimented with anthrax. He won a Nobel Prize for his discoveries.

Robert holds great significance into the medical field. He was the one who experimented about the germ he believed was the cause for diseases, without his work people would have continued to die because of improper treatment. Doctors would not know the causes of certain diseases. There are still some diseases that doctors cannot find the root cause of but one by one, with time, they will be found.

Wilhelm was a German engineer and physician. He is best known for the invention of the x-ray that improved the world of physics and medicine. He is also considered to be the father of diagnostic radiology.

His invention of the x-ray holds important significance. His invention makes diagnostics easier. The ability to identify broken bones is all thanks to him. He made it possible for doctors to see the inside of the body, what was unseen from the inside could now be seen.

Lillian was an American nurse. She is best known for creating the public health of nursing. She helped place nurses in schools. She is the founder of the National Organization for Public Health Nursing. She also advocated for the rights of women, children, immigrants, and laborers.

She is an incredibly significant woman. She was such a good advocate, especially for women. She helped create the ability for women to become nurses who were well educated. Her legacy was her creation of public school nursing.

Social Darwinism was the idea that those in power or more wealthy were just better than those in lower classes. During this time it was believed that the government should not help those in need, such as the people living in poverty.

The significance of this event is that people soon learned to stand up for themselves. Those in power were constantly putting others down, almost killing them. The people in lower classes or other races that were not white, were seen as worthless, but they were the ones who worked hard not just got everything handed to them. The most important thing that happened was that people fought back.
