-Chile is having mass deforestation which is  clearing is the removal of a forest or stand of trees where the land is thereafter converted to a non-forest use
-Dredging is destroying mass amounts of ocean reefs and coral. Dredging is digging up the bottom of the ocean lakes or ponds.
-Mass Poaching of endangered animals.
-Waterborne Disease is easily spreading bacteria throughout most water sources in Chile. This is killing and putting mass amounts of people into hospitals.
-Soil Erosion the removal of soil by the action of water or wind, compounded by poor agricultural practices, deforestation, overgrazing, and desertification.
-Acidification is a large problem where the soil has a low ph level due to acid rain which is harmful to ecosystems in the area.

In 1973 Chile lead by General Augusto Pinochet overthrew democratically elected president Salvador Allende. Pinochet accused Allende of being a socialist and attempting to lead the country to communism. Pinochet ended freedom of speech and arrested, tortured, and killed many citizens of Chile. After losing power and leaving Chile he was brought up on criminal charges for human rights violations. During the 1980's women groups, human rights groups, and the catholic church pushed for democratic elections.
To make a democracy work there are some core principles that followed. These normally include equality and freedom for all citizens within the nation. It also allows for all citizens to have a part in the democratic process. You also have clear objectives given by people running for office a multiple political parties. Democracy works because it is extremely malleable to any situation. The people elect the person that is most in line with heir views and they do their best to put those things into practice.
