Mike Cale - Former CEO of Utility Partners of America by Mike Cale

A Simpsonville, South Carolina-based executive with a background in food distribution, Mike Cale began his career in the late 1970s as a retail grocery manager and later worked for a regional wholesale food distributor. From there, he served as senior procurement manager for the Phoenix Division of Fleming Foods which, at the time, maintained annual revenues of $1 billion. Mike Cale joined Purity Wholesale in 1989 and spent a decade with the company, most recently as its executive vice president of sales and marketing.

In this capacity, Mr. Cale helped grow company revenue from less than $100 million per year to $1.5 billion through efforts including customer relationship development and the creation of a software package and personnel program for retailers and wholesale partners nationwide. He launched his own company in 1999 and, in 2004, purchased Utility Partners of America (UPA).

Shifting his focus to utilities, Mr. Cale served 10 years as CEO of the smart meter installation company and won major contracts with technology manufacturers and utility companies. He ensured customer satisfaction and efficient employee production by developing tracking software to monitor installation teams. These and other efforts by Mike Cale and the team at UPA helped expand the company's revenue from $2 million to $40 million.

Whiskey is a drink produced in a number of countries. Its flavor largely depends on its manufacturing and aging process. It is a distilled spirit made from fermented grains aged in wooden barrels. The history of whiskey is somewhat uncertain, having its roots in both Scotland and Ireland. Some sources argue that the first record of whiskey can be traced to the Annals of Clonmacnoise, allegedly written in 1405. This account shows that whiskey was made in Ireland 90 years before Scotland began distilling the spirit.
