I believe that children should be treated with respect and utmost love. Learning comes naturally when they feel safe and supported.

As a teacher, I believe that preparing daily is my bread and butter regardless of the age group that I am handling. Children should have our best version every day to be able to help them find out the best versions of themselves too-- by themselves and with peers.

Advisory Class: PG1 Batch 2024

The class consists of 12 children.

9 of those are boys, while 3 of those are girls. They are of the older batch which means most of the children started at around 20 months this year and turned 2 years old within the first 4 months of the year.

The class is being handled by Teacher Karla and Chen Laoshi (Chinese-MTL).

Answering to Parents

This year, I have been more hands-on with queries and demands from our parents in the bay. I would usually look over their requests, ask the principal about it, and suggest ways on how we handle some issues. It is a joy for me when I helped them with the things they need, as all of those are for the welfare of their children.

NLB Librarian

I was tasked to be the librarian for this year 2023. I made sure that all the books we get from NLB is in a library system for ease of loan among my colleagues. This also makes sure that we return all the books we borrow from NLB.

Moving forward, this will be the same system we will use for our Core books in the centre.

Sharing for IDR-IDP for PCF Sparkletots @Yishun

Ms Idayu, a Centre Principal from PCF Sparkletots @Yishun invited me to conduct a quick introduction on how to do IDR and IDP recording for her EY Team in the centre. It was a great opportunity to transfer learning from our centre to theirs.

For this year, i took charge of gathering the data for DL-LS and also assist parents if they need anything.

I will also work with the INSP coordinator on their assessment schedule and tune in to their sessions on how we can help a child in managing their issues.

First Day of January

For this day, Teacher is getting used to the children and assisting them with their meals. It was helpful that most of the PG1 children are already part of the PG class last year so transition was not as difficult.

Teaching Self Help Skills

At the beginning of the year, teacher was teaching the children about the things they own and how to properly keep it. Patience and consistency is really the key in teaching the PG class.

The Outdoor Environment

During February, the children have gotten used to our daily outdoor walks and I have been exposing them to different outdoor activities every week.

Introduction to Art Outdoors

On February, we have also started our lesson on Art Outdoors when we integrate the Elements of Arts we see daily as we go outside.

MSD Activity Outdoors

For this month, we started to bring the MSD materials we have in school. The children had fun testing their abilities as they shoot the hoops on the poles.

Large Activity Lesson

For this month, the children are now enjoying large group lessons even though they cannot sit still for a long time! They love reading books a lot!

I have exposed the PG children with the concept of planting so I brought some soil, seeds, and a small shovel to let them experience doing it.

Hari Raya Celebration

This year, we have celebrated Hari Raya in class with some presentations about Hari Raya and by dressing up with our traditional clothes.

Bubble Play Outdoors

We have finally tried bubble play outdoors! This year, I am proud to say that we have been maximising exploring the possibilities we can do outdoors and I am glad that we do not open a lot of activities to children at one time. Their readiness is very important, and so is their interests.

Water Play Lesson

This lesson is integrated with our the theme of Family. The children were tasked to look for their family photos in a tub with LEGO blocks and water. They sure had fun doing the task!

Career Day 2023

We dressed up in different career costumes for Career Day! We also tuned in to the Zoom Call with one parent of our child who is a medical worker.

Making Art Outdoors

Racial Harmony Day

For this month, we have our Racial Harmony celebration. As young as the PG1 children are, it is important to help them understand that we need to respect and care for one another regardless of our races.

Playing in a Box

Exposing children to various free play activities is one of my philosophies in teaching. Now that the PG children have grown, they can communicate their needs and they can also socialize with their peers already. I just prepared a box, stickers, and markers for them to explore.

National Day Celebration

We finally did a parade outdoors during our National Day! We had fun walking around the estate and singing our National Anthem outdoors too!

Painting Outdoors

The children are brought outside for some painting activities. And the medium they use as a brush? Leaves. What a way to create Art outdoors!

Lesson on Transportation

The children can now assist teacher during lesson time and they are starting to recite more as well! They now know how to correct and help friends when they answer wrongly too. Facilitation is very important at this point.

Hand-on Activity about pets

For this month, we had a few hands-on activities on taking care of animals, such as pets. Teacher sourced out toys and materials that we use in grooming pets. The children took turns and they loved this lesson so much!

Sorting and Differentiating

As we have a lesson about Animals in the Farm, the children can now sort and differentiate the produce that comes from animals, and those that are grown as plants or harvested. It is important to have various activities for them so they would not be bored and would constantly be challenged in the class.

Structured Playtime

Cats in the Neighbourhood

Lesson on Insects

More Parent Engagement

Happier Children

We cannot over love children. I am looking forward to refreshing my 3R and to doing regular meetings with the EY team about the importance of SED to the Early Years.

Termly Parental Workshop
