Stage 1: The Eggs

A female frog will lay her eggs in or near the water. She will lay up to a thousand eggs. These eggs are covered in a jelly-like sack to protect them from other animals who will try to eat them.

Stage 2: The Tadpoles

In this stage, the tadpole will look more like a fish then a frog. A tadpole will have no legs but will have a tail that is used for swimming. They breathe through gills just like a fish. For food, it will eat algae and other small water plants.

Stage 3: The Froglet

During this time, the froglet will start to grow legs and lungs. A froglet will look like a small frog with a tail. The tail will start to become shorter and shorter. Because it is growing lungs, it will float above water to breathe air. The froglet will use the nutrients it stored up in its tail for food.

Stage 4: The Frog

At this stage, the frog will fully drop its tail. It is now a full grown adult. The lungs are fully developed in this stage and is safe to live on land. It will stop using its stored nutrients as food and start to catch insects on its own for food.
