97% of the Earth's water is contained in the ocean.

A healthy ocean is essential for regulating the global climate system and maintaining existence of all life on Earth.

The ocean provides natural resources including food, biofuels, and medicine. It also helps buffer damage from storms at costal lines, it helps breakdown and remove pollution and waste, and act as the largest carbon sink.

With over 90% of excess heat being absorbed into the ocean, this has caused a rise in sea-level; therefore, affecting marine ecosystems.

In 2021, there was 17 million metric tons of plastic pollution in the ocean. This pollution amount is expected to double, if not triple, by 2040.

Algal blooms, fish kills, and dead zones are being caused by costal eutrophication - nutrient enrichment.

The ocean's pH is 30% higher, averaging at an 8.1, than it was during pre-industrial times.

Overfishing is occurring with every 1 out of 5 fish being caught from an unreported, unregulated, or illegal fishing source.
