I have to be willing to grow and learn new teaching strategies. I have to be willing to accept new challenges.  I have to show my students, my wife, my kids that I am always a work in progress in my mind. 
This sets a good example for all those who are important to me. My students have seen me fail. My children and wife have too. I got back up and tried again while learning from my mistakes. I can’t possibly set a better example than that. My students and my children will experience failure too, and they need to see that it’s possible to recover and use that failure as a stepping stone to something greater than ever imagined. 
Professionally, I can help teachers and students who exhibit a fixed mindset to make that shift to a growth mindset. I need to learn more about how to help them in making that shift, but I do think that setting a great example is a wonderful place to start.

She decided to start a project in which money is donated to build a cart full of virtual reality goggles and software. These patients could feel like they’re walking on a beach or sightseeing at an amusement park while a blood related procedure is being done. I think this is caring and thoughtful and a wonderful idea if it isn’t already available at St Jude.

We cannot do everything the same and say it is all because it is the way we used to do it. Everyone learns differently and we never stop learning so we are always growing and need to take that into consideration. WE need to have a growth mindset so that we can monitor and adjust and help out students where they are. It isn't about us but about them. Transdisciplinary is so important in this. I think about STEAM and PBL when I hear this term. We are hitting multiple modalities and reaching more students then the "traditional" way of teaching. I love going into classrooms and working with teachers on PBL. Another goal of mine is to be in more classrooms and reach more teachers.
