Do you think that the use of calculators really can harm a student later on in life when it comes to using math in real life situations?

I think that students are becoming to reliant on calculators in this day and age. I get so frustrated when I go to a restaurant and my cashier is struggling to count out the correct change. I think this is a result of only being taught how to use a calculator and not having to do work by pen an paper or in your head. They are helpful but we should not fully rely on them!

I believe that calculators are helpful, but we need to be able to perform

that math in our heads as well. What will happen when the computers

shut down or the batteries die in the calculator? How will people be able

to count back money or figure anything up? People won't be able to buy

or pay anything because no one will know how to do that math.

I believe that calculators can be a tool, but

are becoming a crutch for students, and do

not allow them to actually learn the math

process. This causes them to not be equipped

for the future when they do not have a calculator

with them.

Starting out the students should not use calculators and develop a strong foundation, then in the upper grades they should be allowed to use a calculator to help them solve algebra equations.

I do no feel as though calculators will harm students later in life because

we constantly have access to them so students will not have o go without them.

I think, in the world we live in today, calculators are common. Allowing students to focus on higher functions instead of being bogged down in minor calculations helps them to learn more efficiently.

I feel like if you calculators are the best invention ever,but I believe that students should have to be able to use their mind first.

I believe that calculators are very helpful

when students get to a certain point in

learning math. Therefore, I do not think

Elementary students should use them!
