My concept for the Posterization Portrait is that I wanted to portray beauty. So I decided to do my portrait of Elton John to portray that beauty. I went with a monochromatic color scheme using the values of purple. My dominant principle of design was contrast.
My strength during this project was lighting and color because I feel like I did well with the contrast between the different values of purple; without having them to look the same. In fact I did well with the lighting in the background and giving it a lighter color to make the main subject pop out more. Also I feel like the color I chose really did help bring out that beauty and prettyness within the subject.
I could have been more successful in my technique because I could have made worked on not showing the brush strokes in my painting. (Mostly in the darker values) And trying to smooth out some areas in my painting.

The concept of my piece was to show power, beauty, and content and my reference was Billie Eilish. My color scheme is monochromatic of purple. The dominant principal of design that I choose was movement and I did that by using the shading and the lines of the posterization it should follow the hair then focus on the face then the background should draw your eye away from it so you can see the whole picture. I think I did really well on my lighting and color because I did well on shading and I really did try on making the color correct and similar to the reference photo. Something I could have done better is my technique, I could have added a few more layers to make it look more full and make my lines more clean

This work is of someone I know personally and am close to, I used warm colors that weren't too vibrant to convey a calm comfort. I used a blue background as contrast to make the reds and oranges stand out more and be more eye catching. I feel I did well with conveying emotion and having a more unique work, trying to capture the flaws of a person I find beautiful. I could've done better with realism and proportions but feel otherwise I did a good job

My concept was to capture a feeling of contentment and quiet happiness. My color scheme was an analogous one that included shades of yellow, light green, and darker green. These two connect because the color scheme I chose is a happy one, but not overwhelmingly so. The yellow introduces a feeling of lightness, but the cooler tones of the greens bring that feeling back down into a more calmer feeling of overall ease. I think my color scheme manages to accomplish the feeling and concept I was attempting to portray.
I used texture in this painting through the use of a palette knife and a sponge to create a more abstract sort of feel that is soft in some places and harder with more clear definition in others. This technique helps to portray the sort of wildness and unpredictability of nature that my reference photo showed. I also used a lot of blending to show the clear gradient of highlights to shadows. I used shape to further the idea that this is a painting of nature through my use of solely shapes. No shape is precisely perfect in this painting, as all of them contain the waves and irregularities that nature itself contains. I believe using shape like this furthered the asymmetric and untamed feel that I wanted to convey.
I think that transformation and experimentation was probably my strongest point as I took my reference photo and turned it into an image of how I personally perceived it and then made it portray the feeling I wanted more directly. I also experimented a lot with different tools and brush strokes to see what technique worked best for the vibe I was trying to achieve.
The criteria that could be more successful would probably be technique? As I do use a bunch of different ones that leave the painting feeling a little all over the place. In addition I feel like I wasn't particularly good at the techniques that I did attempt? So I feel like there's a lot of room to improve and figure out how to use those specific techniques in better ways.

Pink is a very safe color for me and Emma ( my friend) is my safe person, so I thought the two would work nicely together. My dominant principal of design was proportion, and I wanted to make sure I got her proportions correct. I think my strength was connecting the color scheme and the painting to my concept. I think I did well in trying to give the feeling of safety, for me at least. I could have been a little bit more successful with my technique, I feel like some parts were a little rushed.

While I was painting I used blues, purples, and cool greens to make the viewer feel calm and relaxed. I used my brush to create the effect of the curves, by following the shape/direction of every curve. My strongest criteria was technique, looking at the painting i like how you can really tell the difference in direction of the glass. (direction in stand, cup, and neck of the glass). A criteria that I could have done better was lighting and color, i feel like some of my highlights were a bit to harsh, i wish i could've blended them more when the paint was wet. (i liked the color to much to change it again)

My dominant principle of design it is going to be balanced because you create a composition as a whole also asymmetrical. My strength in my piece was design because I decide to go with a pattern that suited with my piece and one of my weaknesses was a technique I couldn’t match all my colors I had redo it on more white or add more black and that was very difficult for me.

My concept was to create and happy and calming environment. My color scheme is Complementary
by using different shades of orange and teal. I used red and yellow to create an orange add more yellow to create a more yellowish-orange. I also used more red in the orange to create a reddish-orange. For the teal, I used a combat blue and emerald green to create a teal. I used my brushes to create a smooth texture on my canvas to emphasize the calming aspect of the painting. I created a repetitive peddle shape which creates rhythm in the painting on the left side. On the ride side of the painting, I created a repetitive pattern of circles and a Diamond. My strength was creativity and concept. I think this was my strength because I had a good concept with my colors because happy and calming are two contrasting emotions and they are displayed well on my canvas. I could be more successful with the design. I could have used different techniques to get different textures, using modeling paste or matte medium.

I chose these colors because red and blue are separate but when mixed then make a even better color and so somtimes it’s okay for things to mix as different as they seem. I think my design is the best out of the runic I definitely could have worked on my technique. As that would help me make it look better overall and not have so much empty space. I used texture and shape very well in the fact I was had many well defined sahpe and not so well texture

Which emotion will win between the 3? The red showing anger and the blue showing coldness. The yellow/white will be the brightness that should come through so that the coldness and anger can leave. The shapes I am thinking of adding are triangles for pointless- showing harshness, and circles for hope or a cycle of life. I think the Concept was a strong area for me. I am hoping that the battle of which emotion to choose in life is clear. I want to be better at technique. I want to be better at getting the right tools and using the right paint direction, etc.

my concept for this painting was the safety of finding yourself after a long time. Finding yourself can be a long and messy journey, but the feeling of finally knowing who you are and what you want can feel safe. The color scheme is analogous, with shades of brown and green and hints of red. my dominant principal of design was emphasis, and I used it by emphasizing the shadow and making it darker than the rest of the painting so it draws the eye. I think my biggest strength off the rubric was my design. I really like how my piece came together and I'm very proud of how my design turned out to really portray my concept. One thing I think I struggled with at first was my lighting and color. At first there wasn't a lot of contrast between the shadow and the background, and the background also looked very flat. I added more contrast to the shadow, using a lot lighter tones, and I added more shades of color to the background.

I included one from before our relationship, in the early stages of it, and then recently. My color scheme is probably closest to analogous? I mostly used colors that were pretty close to one another in the color wheel.
I used balance by making all of the objects roughly the same size in the center of the painting to show how consistent and balanced my relationship feels. I used unity in a similar fashion by using similar colors in all the paintings and making them look balanced in order to bring them together. I then used pattern by arranging the paintings in chronological order from when the gifts were given to me, and had the light angling from the same place in every painting.
The criteria that is my strength is probably transformation and experimentation because my paintings have improved a lot from where they first started out in my initial drafts and I figured out how to do the lighting in a better way.
The criteria that could be more successful is probably technique because my shadows could still definitely use some work and my technique in that manner needs to improve.

My work represents the darker side of afterlife, adding in at least three different religions symbols of a darker afterlife (a Japanese Oni demon holding up Christian symbols and the scales of fate, showing the heart is heavier than the feather therefore full of sin). I aim to convey a darker feeling using text that express sadder emotions, adding some that reference the pressure of religion demanding you follow it if you don't want to go to a hell (ex ; tell us how strong your love it, there was a time when nobody believed, it took all of my faith not to give up hope). I want my work to be viewed and taken in wholly by your own opinions and perception and trigger different reactions in each person depending on their views of religion.

My concept for my painting was to represent how we get lost in our daily lives and don’t see the beauty around us. I’m not sure what the color scheme is but I used two opposite feeling colors to show the happiness and the worry in life. My dominant principal of design is emphasis. I wanted the very center of the canvas to draw your attention most. I made the center part draw your attention with a big map that signifies our daily lives and routines. The criteria I feel I did the best on is creativity. I have never created a mixed media piece before net alone tell a message through it. I could have did better with the technique I used to lay down the paint I have on the canvas. The blending of the colors isn’t too good.

My concept was to depict a very realistic version of my grandparents house in Russia. I wanted to show a very bright, nostalgic version of their house because of how much it reminds me of my childhood. My color scheme is probably closest to split complementary? Because my dominant colors are red, blue, and green.
My dominant principle of design was emphasis and I used it by placing the most important section of the house where both my grandparents live in the center of the painting. I also used the most vibrant colors to decorate it to further draw the viewers eye. I then used leading lines to lead the viewers eye to this specific section of the house I wanted them to focus on the most.
The criteria that I was most successful with was transformation and experimentation because there were a lot of times where I had to fix mistakes that I made in order to make the entire painting look more realistic and I think I did a good job in doing so. It did take a lot of experimentation to see what looked best and where.
The criteria that could use some work is probably lighting and color? Because while there are highlights and shadows, neither of them are cohesive or equal across the entire piece and they could all truly use some work.

My concept for this Mixed Media, is that I wanted to portray the feeling of fear or the fear of being in a nightmare. I used a monochromatic color scheme of black and white. They connect because I think that if I used a different monochromatic color in the project. Then it would kinda hard to be able to portray my concept that way. Also I feel that the black and white helps give more of a eerie and haunting look to it. My dominant principle of design I used was a Radial Balance.
My strength in this project was the transformation and experimentation because it was fun to play around with where to place certain things. Or experiment on how to make the painting really pop out to the audience. So it looks as if the monster in the painting is alive and climbing/crawling out of the canvas. It was also nice to experiment with the tentacles in the paining. And how I wanted those to look to also help with the pop out look of the painting.
I could have been more successful in a little bit of my technique because I think I could have spent a little more time on the shading in the character itself. And work on trying to make some of the shading lines less harsh.
