In 1851 Former Mexican citizens in California must prove they owned land, which many non-Hispanics “claimed” during the Gold Rush, before the US took over the area. Many of Californios lose their land. This is called the California Land Act of 1851. Mexicans who live in California. After the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the war with Mexico, they became citizens of the United States and were guaranteed rights to their land. However, because of the Land Law of 1851, many settlers lost their cases in court while attempting to prove ownership of the land and lost their land. I think this has the most impact on American society because it shows how the Mexicans were being treated when they got kicked off their land.

The Gold Rush begins in 1848 on California Territory. The Gold Rush had a devastating impact on Native Californians, hastening the Native American population's decline due to disease, starvation, and the California genocide. The California Gold Rush was the largest mass migration in American history, bringing approximately 300,000 people to the state. On January 24, 1848, James W. Marshall discovered gold on his property at Sutter's Mill in Coloma. In my opinion the gold rush had the most impact on American economy because it led to increased production of lumber and the creation of new flour mills.

Through the Labor Appropriation Act of 1924, Congress established the Border Patrol as part of the Immigration Bureau in the Department of Labor on May 28, 1924.The United States built the first barrier between 1909 and 1911; Mexico likely built the first barrier in 1918, and barriers were extended in the 1920s and 1940s. The initial 14 miles of fencing along the San Diego–Tijuana border were approved by US President George H. W. Bush. I choose to use Boarder Patrol as my example for this topic because it shows how immigration laws were getting more serious.
