From the topic Process and Counselling, i have learnt that counselling involves a structured process that follows a systematic sequence that includes attending, rapport, listening, understanding, problem solving, decision making, action, and termination. There are 5 factors that influence the process which are structure, initiative, physical setting, client qualities, and counselor qualities. I have also learnt that problem solving in counselling is approached through 5 models, each offering a distinct framework for understanding and addressing issues.

Based on this week's topic (Process and Skills), I got to learn about the process of counselling which involves the opening phase, the middle phase and the ending phase. From the simulation video, it emphasised the initial phase of counselling which focused on rapport building. In this stage, it is very crucial for the counsellor to have good attending skills (verbal and nonverbal communication) as it will help the client to be more comfortable and encourage them to open up more. Other than that, I also got to learn about the factors affecting the counselling process which includes structure, initiative, physical setting, client qualities, and counsellor qualities.

According to the “Simulation Scenario – Orientating a Client at the First Appointment” video, the counsellor need to introduce themselves and stated that they are the authorised counsellor. The counsellor need to provide a comfortable space and condition to the client, Jasmine while asking her to sit comfortably and be comfortable in the new environment which the room that the client never been before. The counsellor tried to read the body language that show the emotion of the client, while asking that it would be tough situation that the client need to be there. The counsellor are asking useful questions to the client. I can see that there are relationship building in the conversation between the counsellor and client since the client are welcomed there for the counselling session, counsellor help to relieve tensions and invite open communication such as trying to make the client’s talk. The counsellor also have a helper mindset which she have the eye contact, smile with the client and paying more attention to the client such as asking how she come there and whatsoever. Basically, in the first appointment, the counsellor and the client does not talk about the issue but they are just trying to comfortable, which is the relationship building to make the client trust in the counsellor, which help in next counselling's session.

Bases on the stimulation video, first and most crucial stage is establishing a relationship between counselor and client. A good relationship may build trust among the client and couselor and client will be more open up. Moreover, counselor should make a comfortable environment for the clients. So they feel safe to share their issues. Counselor are encourage to ask consent from the client so client feel some control on the situation. The counselor in this video implemented 'SOLER'. She faced the client squarely with open posture and lean forward on some occasion. Throughout the session, she maintained eye contact and remain relax. Its effective to ask open ended questions as it would make the client to elaborate more on the matters. Lastly, on the first session, there is no need to explore the issue yet. The main purpose it to make the client comfortable and build trust.

Establishing a positive and trusting relationship is essential. The counselor should create a welcoming atmosphere to help the client feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings. Demonstrating empathy, warmth, and genuine interest can contribute to building rapport. The first session often involves an assessment to gather more information about the client's background, history, and current concerns. The counselor may ask open-ended questions to encourage the client to share their story and articulate their goals for counselling.

Based on the video, I saw that the counsellor helped her client feel at ease by providing a pleasant setting. It is critical for the client to feel at ease and protected to be able to open up to the counselor about her concerns. Moreover, the counsellor also implemented the SOLER method. She faced the client squarely with an open posture and occasionally leaning forward. She also maintained a good eye contact and was relax througout the session. the most crucial element on that video is, the counsellor did not dive into the issue of the client but instead established a nice rapport

Based on the conversation between Jazzmin and her counselor, there are a few important things I got from their conversation:

A situation where Jazzmin is feeling anxious and uncomfortable. This is evident from his initial reluctance to enter the counseling room and his need for a pillow to feel more comfortable.

Counselors are empathetic and supportive. He understood Jazzmin's anxiety and took steps to make her feel more comfortable, such as giving her a pillow and suggesting they keep the first session short. Jazzmin took steps to overcome her anxiety. She agreed to see a counselor and actively tried to make herself more comfortable in the counseling environment. It is normal to feel anxious about counseling. Many people feel nervous or uncomfortable when they first begin counseling. It takes time to adjust to a new environment and feel comfortable talking about personal issues. Counseling can help people who struggle with anxiety or other mental health problems. Counselors can provide support, guidance, and coping strategies to help people manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life. Overall, the conversation between Jazzmin and her counselor highlighted the importance of seeking professional help for mental health problems. With the right support, Jasmine can learn to manage her anxiety and lead a fulfilling life.

Based on the video, I noticed that the counsellor focused on establishing rapport and creating a safe space for the client. This shows that the counsellor wants to build trust and a positive connection with the client. This also means that the counselling process is still at the opening phase where the formation of a therapeutic relationship happened. By watching this video and reflecting back on what I've studied this week, the opening phase is a pivotal moment to allow the client to share their concerns openly. Counsellor also needs to understand the client's perspective by active listening and feeling empathic towards the client. Additionally, counsellor must ask open-ended questions to the client so that it can help the client to talk more about themselves.

Based on the video, it is important for a counselor to build rapport with their client. Making sure that they are comfortable in every possible way. Finding a quiet and private room to discuss, then sitting a position that makes the client feels at ease. A first session with a counselor can be nerve wrecking for some, which is why it is important to make the client feel safe with us. Then comes the structuring. The counselor tells the client what they can expect in upcoming sessions. After that, the counselor slowly gets to know her client, to better know how to proceed in later sessions

Based on the video, it is important for a counsellor to attend the client properly because the client might feel nervous for their first time. I could see that the counsellor is good at attending the client as she ask questions because the client seems like not a person that talk much. The counsellor also ask client to choose where she feels comfortable to sit & counsellor let client choose where she wants her to sit. From there I can see that the counsellor is sensitive with the behaviour of the client because she looked at every movement of the client. Besides that, the counsellor also use some non verbal techniques (SOLER) - squarely face the client, open posture, lean in occasion, eye contact, relax & natural behaviour in order to make the client do not feel any pressure in the room. Counsellor can ask open ended question in order to build relationship with client. From the video, I can conclude that rapport building with client is important to make client comfortable and more open to share their personal problems. In the end of the video, I see that the client started to make an eye contact with the counsellor and looks like she is ready to share her problems.

Based from the simulation video, the video shows that it is crucial for Counselor to start on introducing herself to the client. During this stage, it’s critical for counselor to build relationship with her client due to in order to gain trust, Counselor need to build a strong and positive relationship with the client. In the video, the Counselor has a very good attending skills by not pressurize her client and asking her client everytime she wants to make sure her client is comfortable and could make herself feel like home, this would be classify as comfortable assertiveness. The counselor also apply the the Egan (1988) theory which is SOLER by Squarely face the client, Open posture, Lean in occasion, Eye Contact and Relax with natural behavior. The Counselor shows her professionalism during attending the client at the initial phase. Thus, it can lead to the client feeling comfortable and trust her to open up about her issues. After some time of building relationship and welcoming the client, the Counselor starts to structure few information about the session to the client. It is important to highlight that the counselor also applies the Gladding (2012) factors that influence the counseling process which are Structure, Initiative, Physical Setting, Client Qualities and Counselor Qualities. The Counselor had already structure the client about the session at the near end of the video, while the Counselor initiate the session by introducing herself and welcoming the client, which refers to Initiative. The third one which is Physical Setting, the Counselor ensure that the client feels comfortable by asking the client how she would like to sit, to be, and many more. Next, the Client Qualities shows a positive qualities by showing response to the Counselor. Lastly, the counselor qualities is top notch, due to she knows what she had to do, and she applies all the theory that she learned during the initial phase of the session.

Based on the simulation video that I have watched, I can understand the basic measures taken before a counselling session starts. Firstly is the introduction between the client and the counselor. The counselor will provide the client with ample information regarding the sessions which we call structuring. Then, counselor also need to make sure the client feel welcomed and safe in the space provided since they will be holding their counseling sessions there. Give client comfort and do not make them feel pressured to talk about their problems when they are not ready. Be flexible about the session accordingly. This way, clients are more well-acquainted with the environment of the counselling room and would be able to convey their feelings and be open to help easier.

Build relationship, give the client your full attention, and acknowledge their emotions. Provide a thorough introduction to the counselling process at the same time, outlining session structure, confidentiality, and client engagement. This double emphasis guarantees that the client is well informed and at ease while also nurture a supportive environment.

Based on the stimulation Scenario video, the counselor initiates the relationship by introducing herself, setting a warm and welcoming tone. In this stage, it is crucial for the counselor to use good attending skills, since the client are passive person counselor has invites open communication to the client. The counselor also inviting the client to the private room, to ensure the client feels safe and comfortable. Moreover, she has use things inside the room, to paraphrase the client feels. I see the verbal communication skill used. Counselor emphasizes the important of confidentiality, assuring the client that what is shared in sessions will be kept confidential within legal and ethical bounds. In the first session they are not talking about the issue but the counselor tries to build relationship so the client feels comfortable. According to the topic process and skills, it is related with video given. Which the process involves opening phases, the middle phases and the ending phases. In the video, the counselor and client more to building relationship since that was the first appointment for Jasmine.

Based regarding how the counsellor interacted with the client on the first meeting, I observed them developing a really nice relationship during the counselling session. I watched the counsellor put the client at ease by providing a pleasant environment. In my opinion, it is important for the client to feel at ease and safe enough to discuss their issue. The counsellor also demonstrates the SOLER approach in action. As evidence, she addressed the client firmly, with an open stance and a forward lean. During the counselling session, she also made eye contact and relaxed. The most important aspect is that the counsellor did not dive into the client's issue but instead established a wonderful connection in the video.

From watching a video where a counselor meets a client for the first time, I learned that it's super important for them to be friends before diving into serious talk. The counselor made the room comfy and nice, so the client felt safe. Feeling safe is a big deal because it helps the person share their feelings. The counselor also did this thing called SOLER. She sat facing the client, leaned in a bit, looked into their eyes, and stayed chill. This made the client more comfortable. What I found most cool was that the counselor didn't rush into talking about the client's problems. Instead, they took time to be friendly first. This video taught me that being buddies and making someone feel comfy is the key to good counseling.

It is about the structuring process which involves building a good relationship with the client so that the client will feel comfortable with the counselor to share everything during the next sessions. I also noticed that the counselor implemented the SOLER method which are squarely facing the client, having an open posture during the session, leaning on an occasion, having eye contact with the client, and also being relaxed and having natural behavior. From that, the client will feel comfortable during the session and not felt alone in expressing her feelings. Other than that, the counselor also has an empathy feeling to understand their client's condition and always confronts her to always be open during the session.

Make an introduction, talk about confidentiality, and use open-ended questions to encourage client to share their goals and concerns. Establishing rapport is crucial, and attending skills in counseling refer to non-verbal behaviors that demonstrate active and focused listening. This includes maintaining eye contact, using open and inviting body language, nodding to show understanding, and providing verbal affirmations. These skills help client feel heard and supported during the counseling process. Active listening can help the counselor understand the client’s needs and goals.

Based on the simulation video, what I have learned is about how a counsellor approaches their client in the right way. From this way, a good relationship between the counsellor and the client can be built well. A counsellor needs to introduce themselves first before starting the counseling session. This will not only make the client feel comfortable but they will also feel that the counsellor is a good and trustworthy person. Not only that, a counsellors also need to treat their clients well such as asking their clients if there is a place to hold a counseling session that gives them comfort or vice versa. This is one of the important questions because the preparation of a good place will give a positive effect and aura to the client. They will also make it easier for us to help them. Through the video as well, counsellors also demonstrate attending skills through communication whether the communication is verbal or otherwise. In this way, we can see that the client is very comfortable and they can tell stories or share the problems they face. Furthermore, it is also very important for a counsellor to make eye contact with their client while giving a smile and trying to understand the client. This is because it makes the client more open to telling stories. In a nutshell, I found that the video shows the important roles that a counsellor needs to have in starting an effective counseling session with the client.

Based on the simulation video, it shows that building a relationship with the client is a crucial step in the counseling process. The counselors use a variety of techniques in order to make her clients feel more comfortable with her. For instance, the counselor allows the client to decide her preferred place to sit and speaks to her in a gentle manner. This type of scenario can also demonstrate the counselor's expertise in responding in accordance with the conditions and client behavior. Relationship building is an important phase because it will determine whether or not the client continues in the counseling session; the client will continue, which is when the client feels comfortable and will begin to trust their counselor in sharing their problems. Therefore, the most important skills that counselors must possess in order to make their clients feel comfortable during the session and the next stage in the counseling process is rapport building.

First they need to attend the client with a good energy and invite the client to talk. As seen on the video, at first the client seem so nervous and scared with her surrounding that is unfamiliar to her but due to the counsellor effort and ability that welcome and attend the client she start to become more loose and comfortable. It is clear that the counsellor try to apply both a verbal and non verbal (SOLER) gesture such as asking a permission where to sit, give freedom for client to choose where to look and hold things, it definitely help the client to trust her more and feel more comfortable there. Attending skills is important for a counsellor as it can help establish a relationship building between them and client especially on the first session. From there, I could see on how a counsellor tries to tackle on a client which is struggling with mental health issues to start a conversation with her. From the conversation there, I can see that it is very important to start building a relationship and make your client felt like home in every single counselling session. This phase seems like a vital phase which would ensure the entire counselling session ended in a success. In the video it was shown making our client safe and comfortable was a priority for an example like the counsellor asking her client to choose where she should be seated to make sure both are in a good position to start a counselling session. Therefore, the video shows that rapport building is needed in a counselling session to ensure that the client was not in a bad place and was comfortable during the session.

This video depicts a simulated counselling session between a counsellor and a client. The counsellor begins by introducing herself and clarifying the purpose and process of counselling. She actively listens to the client's expectations and goals, discussing confidentiality and boundaries, and addressing any concerns or questions. The counselor also assesses the client's level of distress and potential risk, offering resources or referrals as needed. Together, they collaboratively create an agenda for the current and future sessions, regularly checking in with the client to ensure their satisfaction. At the end, the counsellor provides feedback, recaps the key points, and informs the client about the next session and any necessary preparations. The counsellor expresses gratitude for the client's participation and trust, and encourages them to provide feedback.

Based on the simulated scenario, I can draw the conclusion that the counsellor made the counselling process simpler by using the appropriate techniques, as seen in the interactions between Jasmine and her counsellor. First things first, The counsellor in the video asked Jasmine if she would want to meet in a more secluded room at the start of the session to make sure they were in a therapeutic setting. In addition, the counsellor also greet the client which is Jasmine warmly to make sure they are comfortable and ask open-ended questions.

Instead of pressuring the client to start a conversation, the counsellor asked how long the client would want to have a counselling session with her, and she only wanted to talk for 15 minutes.Basically, the counsellor tries to establish a good connection with the client Jasmine in this case in order to ensure that the client feels at ease and to foster a relationship of trust.Additionally, the counsellor used the "SOLER" technique. She held herself directly in front of the client, occasionally bending forward. She remained calm and made eye contact the entire session.

Next, she tries to explain a little bit what counseling is to the client so that the client will understand why she is at the counseling session. The counselor has also created a comfortable environment so that the client will be more open to tell everything and create a therapeutic atmosphere. It is also important for the counselor to set the direction of this session so that in the middle and end of the counseling session it will not go astray and a good relationship will arise between the client and the counselor.

Based on the simulation video, I learnt that the first appointment with the client is an important and crucial part in a counseling session. During the first stage of counseling, building rapport take part. In order to have a good building relationship session, the counselor need to ensure that the client is comfortable with the current environment. The counselor should also need to be alert with the client’s body language so that the counselor knows about how the client’s feel, and to open up any question. The questions that are been asked should be open ended question so that the client can answer it frwely without any limitation. Basically, the first session is all about building relationship between the counselor and client, as well as setting expectation onto the counselling session.

Furthermore, Jazzmin's identification of potential client apprehension about the agency's name and the issues presented demonstrates an advanced awareness of the difficulties clients may experience. Establish a private, quiet space for the discussion, then take a seat where the client is comfortable. Making the client feel safe with us is crucial since, for some people, their first session with a counselor can be extremely stressful. The structuring follows. The client is informed by the counselor of what to expect in the next sessions. Such models have their roots in some psychoanalytic approaches, notably Sigmund Freud's early ideas on childhood sexual abuse and hysteria,Pierre Janet's work on dissociation, and John Bowlby's attachment theory. There is significant research supporting the linkage between early experiences of chronic maltreatment and severe neglect and later psychological problems. The counsellor uses Cognitive behavioural therapy in which a talking therapy that can help the client manage her problems by changing the way the client think and behave. The counsellor also didn’t for get to ask her client permission to take an action to make sure her client felt more save and comfortable. The counsellor also encouraging their client to come to next session by praise her client because she’s able to come and give cooperation for the first time session. In addition, the counsellor uses nonverbal strategies (SOLER) such as facing the client directly, maintaining an open posture, leaning slightly when necessary, maintaining eye contact, being relaxed, and exhibiting natural conduct to help the client feel at ease. A counsellor might establish a rapport with a client by posing open-ended questions. During counselling, these abilities support and listen to the client. Counsellors who actively listen to their clients can better comprehend their needs and objectives.

I could see from the video that the therapist created a comfortable environment to make her client feel at ease. For the client to be able to open up to the counsellor about her issues, she must feel secure and at peace. Additionally, the counsellor used the SOLER approach. She held an open posture, occasionally bending forward, as she confronted the client directly. She was very relaxed and made wonderful eye contact the entire time.

According to the simulation video, it is critical for the Counsellor to begin by introducing herself to the client. During this stage, it is crucial for the counsellor to build a strong and good relationship with the client because in order to gain trust, the counsellor must build a strong and positive relationship with the client.

In the video, the Counsellor demonstrates excellent attendance skills by not pressurising her client and asking her client every time she wants to ensure her client's comfort and ability to make herself feel at ease; this is referred to as comfortable assertiveness. The counsellor also employs the Egan (1988) theory, which is SOLER, by facing the client squarely, maintaining an open stance, leaning in on occasion, maintaining eye contact, and relaxing with natural behaviour. During the early phase, the Counsellor demonstrates her professionalism by attending to the client. As a result, the client may feel more at ease and trusting to open up about her concerns.

After some time of creating relationships and welcome the client, the Counsellor begins to structure a few details about the session for the client. It is vital to note that the counsellor also employs the Gladding (2012) aspects that influence the counselling process, which are Structure, Initiative, Physical Setting, Client Qualities, and Counsellor Qualities. The Counsellor had already structured the session for the client near the end of the film, but the Counsellor initiated the session by introducing herself and welcoming the client, which alludes to Initiative.

Furthermore is Physical Setting, in which the Counsellor ensures that the client feels comfortable by asking her how she would like to sit, be, and so on. Following that, the Client traits demonstrates positive traits by responding to the Counsellor. Finally, the counselor's qualities are excellent since she understands what she needs to accomplish and implements all of the theory that she learned during the beginning phase of the session.

It is because, not everyone will be comfortable to talk about the problems or issues they face with strangers or new people. It is the counsellor’s responsibility to provide a safe, confidential environment, and to offer empathy, understanding and respect.

The counsellor’s tone of voice, and the words they choose to greet the client with, will also affect the relationship. Offering the client enough time to collect thoughts and express concerns and difficulties will encourage the client to relax and talk freely. Allowing sufficient delay in responding also gives the client more opportunity to open up further.

The five stages in counselling are relationship building, assessment, goal setting, interventions, and termination. it is important because it helps to create a foundation of trust and understanding between the counsellor and the client. In the first stage, attending and observing are the most important skills to understand and reach the client's thoughts better. Plus, eye contact and body language also become a main point for counsellor to show that clients can trust them. There are eight terms and behaviors needed in counselling which are attending skills, rapport, listening skills, understanding, problem-solving, decision-making, action, and termination.
