Personification and juxtaposition. " voices riding high, eyes which eat", "timely crowds". In this quote, it is talks about voices, doing the action of riding high, describing the energy and volume of the crowd at the coffee shop. Furthermore, eyes, which normally wouldn't be able to consume food, is said as eating. This use of personification describes the hunger of the people at the coffee shop, so intense that it can be seen through their eyes. In the quote "timely crowds", there is a contrast between the two words, where crowds are usually chaotic and messy, while timely usually shows an organized manner.
