         <title>Accountability</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br><br>Accountability is a two way street. Thoroughly teach them what it looks like, feels like and sounds like.&nbsp;<br><br>- does not have to be quiet during work time<br><br>- students choose a spot where they can be independent and build their stamina<br><br>- will be days where seat placement and voice level are not up to standard, so take a step back and have discussion and reteach or review I charts.<br><br><br>-Need to teach students to select meaningful reading materials and writing topics, which results in high levels of motivation, engagement, and achievement.<br><br>- Meaningful independence is the ultimate in student accountability. </div>]]></description>

Taking time to build trust and demonstrate respect is the foundation upon which all other elements of learning are built.  We can TEACH students how to build stamina and stay engaged in reading and writing for longer periods of time. The Daily 5 works when we trust students, but it is not a blind trust. When explicit instruction and extended practice are combined, our students acquire the skills necessary to become trusted, independent learners</div>]]></description>
