We are going to participate in 10 different courses over the next two years. The courses will help us to develop our digital competences, linguistic competences, mindfulness and multisensory learning. We will learn how to cope with stress, how to communicate and have good relations, how to broaden our knowledge through art and cultural heritage, how to motivate ourselves and students. We will also develop skills to recognise students' learning problems.

We believe that the participation in the programme Erasmus KA1 will help our school to make progress in all parts of the school life. We believe that new ideas, new skills and competences will have a positive effect on motivation and educational performance of our students. We also believe that our experience from foreign schools will encourage other colleagues co-workers to seek for new possibilities to broaden their minds, encourage them to discover new tools and increase motivation to help them do the demanding job of teachers and pre-school teachers even better.
PROJECT LOGO:

COURSE PARTICIPANTS: Tanja Sivec Rutar, and Nina Levpušček Melinc
WHERE: Oulu, Finska
WHEN: 18.8.2019 – 23.8.2019
COURSE: How are you, teacher?
ORGANISATION: Helea

GOALS:
To develope the European dimension and internationalization by cooperating with teachers from different European countries and different school levels. To have cooperative activities by learning how to use eTwinning for contacting and starting new international projects after the course. And with curiosity, playfulness and joy making contacts and friendships.
To improve teacher’s abilities to respond to individual learners needs and to deal with their social diversity by gaining knowledge and experience how to get the peace of mind with easy physical activities in Finnish nature, and connecting it in place-based (phenomal) education. Also by learning the difference of good stress and bad stress, learning how and when to say no as an approach to solve problems and managing to change stress from chaos to coherence. To get mental and physical resources to meet the challenges of the work. By making short movies in workshop with professionals about the Finnish culture, social behavior and intarnationality to get digital skills and ideas.
Competences and experiences into the curriculum by getting knowledge about the process, information, evaluation in the new Finnish Basic Education Curriculum and teacher’s role in implementing it, as well as a short view to PISA 2018 part Global competency for an exclusive world
To know more about Finland and Finnish culture.
To encourage to increase English language skills
To feel more confident and proud about being a competent and good teacher teacher
_______________________________________________________________________
EXPERIENCE:
Tanja Sivec Rutar, English teacher and Nina Levpušček Melinc , Slovenian language teacher and school librarian, were the first to participate in Erasmus KA1 programme in Oulu in Finland. The decision where to participate in an Erasmus course was an easy one due to the fact that Finnish eduacational system is considered to be one of the best in the world.
The city of Oulu is considered to be the capital of Northern Finland and it is situated somewhere in the middle of north and south, just around 100 kilometres away from Sweden.
The course How are you teacher? was of great quality, organisation was great and our course organiser Paula Saanio had extensive knowledge of different fields. The concept of the programme was good and very interesting. We visited the University of Oulu, where we were astonished by the interior design, we had lectures and discussions about stress in our profession. We had discussions about Finnish educational system and compared it to the systems in other countries of the course participants. Besides the lectures and discussions, we also got to know the Finnish culture and customs and stereotypes about the Finnish people. We also had different workshops, we filmed an animated film about stereotypes, visited the art museum and prepared some typical Finnish food.
In this one week Erasmus course we got a lot of ideas for our lessons, we made new friends, with whom we have plans to cooperate in the future etwinning projects. We are looking forward to sharing the knowledge that we gained with our colleagues and students.
These kind of international education programmes are nice and unique experience. We feel that the programme and the whole week spent in Finland had and will have a positive impact on our personal as well as on our professional development.

I chose mindful eating and decreasing the level of noise in our canteen. I believe in my project and with the support of other afternoon teachers, we will implement it at our lunch time.

I can only speak in superlatives about this course because the tacher was really flexible and full of knowledge. They were so quiet that you could almost hear grass growing :)
We asked them if they feel any different after these exercises and the most common answer was yes, they felt more relaxed and peaceful. The participants connected during five days and also visited some interesting Barcelona sights together.

Creating Art is a valuable activity in the classroom and beyond, as it helps us to overcome biases and thought patterns. Experimenting with new materials and ways of thinking and creating is not only allowed in Art, but desired. Art approaches are very good for the Autistic children as they help them to express themselves in the visual language, which they can understand better than spoken language.

Art creates possibilities to express ourselves, to appreciate the natural beauty and harmony, and to function in the society in acceptable ways - and it even does not have to be Art in a classical sense, egg. Painting or composing music, but it can emerge through everyday activities as dancing, singing, cooking … Sublimation through art is a natural defense system and a kind of analgetic and at the same time, as Freud discovered, the sign of one's maturity and civilisation.

COURSE PATICIPANTS: Tanja Sivec Rutar, Nina Levpušček Melinc
WHERE: Prague
WHEN: 23 to 28 August 2021
COURSE: Game-Based Learning and Gamification in the Classroom
ORGANISATION: Europass Teacher Academy

GOALS:

-      Distinguish between various kinds of games;

-      Identify principles and definitions of game design (e.g., reward mechanisms, activity loops, habit creation, fun, immersive experience, emerging and branching storytelling);

-      Use games for educational propose;

-      Draw from their personal experience or design entirely new game-based activities;

-      Include game design elements in their educational work (gamification);

- Exploit games to spread or reinforce values in communities and society.

EXPERIENCE:

Tanja Sivec Rutar and Nina Levpušček Melinc participated in a course Game-Based Learning and Gamification in the Classroom which took place in Prague, from 23 to 28 August. It was organised by an Italian teacher trainer Carmine Rodi Falanga. Sixteen teachers from different parts of Europe (Portugal, Spain, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Greece and Slovenia) and different levels of education (nursery school, primary school and secondary school) participated in the course. 30-hour course was based on hands-on approach, group work, discussion and exchanging opinions.

The main theme of the course were both board games and video games and the benefits of putting the elements of games into the educational process itself. We learnt how to motivate the students to learn while playing games and having fun. Every well-structured educational game allows us to become aware of our and other players' personality, emotions, thoughts and values. Consequently, when we become aware of some aspects of our personality or other players' personality, we can accept them.

A well-structured educational game can also help us to recognize how we and other players function within a group (are we flexible, patient, conflictual, leaders or do we tend to stay invisible). Besides this, a good game can teach us how to control our emotions that arise (aggressiveness, patience, frustration, disappointment etc.) and how to develop critical thinking.

Last but not least, during playing a game, a number of hormones are released (serotonine, dopamine, oxytocin) and thus students motivation and engagement are increased.

To finish with the words of Carmine, our teacher trainer: »Every game is a learning experience.«
