The newspaper I ran across, Al Dia (Update/Keeping Up), had an effective ad at the bottom of the front page of its latest issue. As stated in Integrated Advertising, Promotion, and Marketing Communication, one disadvantage of having an ad in a newspaper is that if it does not stand out and/or not in the first few pages, the ad will most likely go unnoticed. Luckily, Metro PCS was able to land an advertisement on the front page of this Spanish newspaper. Furthermore, the ad's purple background helps the promotion stand out from the rest of the page, leading readers' eyes to scroll to the bottom. People also correlate newspaper with credibility. Newspaper customers rely on this type of printed publication to convey trustworthy and factual information. Having "gratis", meaning free, in big, capital, orange, bold letters further captivates the audience's attention even if they are not a Metro PCS customer. Lastly, this advertising technique works for the company because the ad targets an older age group. Many older Hispanics I have come across seem to not care so much about materialism towards smart phones but are more vigilant when it comes to economy. Since newspaper readers tend to be an older demographic, Metro PCS effectively promotes its offers. I feel like if the ad was a little bigger, the company's sales could skyrocket. Sometimes, tiny words can be really difficult to read and readers/customers want to know what exactly they are signing up for.
