The authors wife was ill and the author was depressed about that, so the bird resembled his wife that was about to die and his feeling about it. The tone of the passage is giving of a depressing feeling. The feelings of the author are depressing. The raven never moved because it was dead, he says the bird was being taken over by the demon.

well basically the authors wife passed her name was lenore he was very upset or depressed and he was just sitting there pondering then a raven flew in and sat on his chamber door and the raven made him happy but then it started to scare him and the bird and the bird keeps on saying nevermore then the man wants him to go away and it is like the bird is the wifes soul in the bird and this was based on true events the authors wife passed of tuberculouses and one of my favorite lines is What this grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt and ominous bird of yore

Meant in croaking "Nevermore."

He is scared about not seeing her once more. The author has depressed tone about his wife being sick, which in this poem is already dead. And the author is left alone and sore.

Edgar Allan Poe was using the word 'nevermore' multiple times to give the effect that his wife (who was deathly ill) was leaving soon and he would never see her again. The raven is a symbol for his crippling depression and his wanting to leave the earth with his wife.

Favorite Line:

My interpretation of the Raven is the wife of the Narrator, Lenore, is dead and the narrator is mourning because of this. When the Raven flew into the narrators home he could have seen it as a sign to move on and the reason the Raven said "Nevermore" was to show that the Narrator didn't have to agree anymore.
