Welcome to our Large Group Padlet .Each teacher-participant is assigned a specific aspect of semantic memory to research and contribute to the document. Aspects could include its definition, role in learning, strategies for enhancing semantic memory in students, and differences between semantic and episodic memory

Definition of Semantic Memory: It is a type of long-term memory that stores general knowledge, concepts, facts, and meanings of words, allowing for the understanding and comprehension of language, as well as the retrieval of general knowledge about the world.

Importance: Without semantic memory, our ability to acquire, retain, and use factual information would be severely impacted, making semantic knowledge representations a crucial element of any individual’s overall memory functioning as well as their communication, learning, relationships, and many other cognitive tasks and aspects of life.

Techniques For Improving Semantic Memory: By practicing the recall of facts, you actively improve memory, forcing your mind to encode that information and putting it in your long-term storage. Repetition of the information is the most efficient way to create strong memories for recalling them later.

Episodic Vs Sematic Memory:

Semantic memory is focused on facts, ideas, and concepts. Episodic Memory on the other hand, refers to the recalling of particular and subjective life experiences. Episodic memory is the collection of past personal experiences that occurred at particular times and places.

While semantic memory embodies information generally removed from personal experience or emotion, episodic memory is characterized by biographical experiences specific to an individual. Hence, the latter involves actual events which had transpired at specific moments in one’s life.

Difference between semantic and episodic memory.

1-in semantic memory nature of information comes from general knowledge and facts that are unrelated to personal experience eg includes knowledge from history, science etc. whereas episodic memory involves personal experiences and events which happened at specific places and times eg an event of success,or celebrations of an anniversary. 2- In semantic memory knowledge is like an abstract and not linked to specific context. Whereas in episodic memory information is contextual like related to specific time, location or emotion. 3- semantic memory can be easily retrieved through general knowledge and concepts rather personal experience. Whereas episodic memory retrieval needs recalling details of personal experience. 4- semantic memory developes gradually with age over a period time. Whereas episodic memory is susceptible to aging as abilities to recall personal events decline with age. Dr Mussarat Sultana.

Discussion will include definition ,types, causes and management. Correlation-I will share my past experience,as I was called for help by my colleague to attend the patient who went under PPH .after putting extreme efforts we were able to stop bleeding but as the patient was already in shock, due to non availability of B-ve blood, ultimately the patient expired.
