Impact of personal narrative podcasts on adult online learners’ sense of belonging

I would like to do some research examining the role of a personal narrative podcast as a component of a social space in online learning; and explore how such a podcast format might encourage social learning, or at least give a sense of belonging.

the differing engagement, feedback and attendance for learner development sessions that are mandated (i.e. embedded in the curriculum with attendance expected), versus voluntary (i.e. signing up for something from a core programme of events open to students outside of the curriculum) and how/what might explain any differences, and how mandatory sessions could be made more engaging when the audience is captive.

Central Vs. Faculty/Dept-based learner support

Our HEI seems to be shrinking most student services to be centralised, rather than having satellites or hubs within Faculties/Schools etc.

Given that most HEIs are making cuts to staffing and resources, the impact of this change on students and learner developers could be interesting and topical.

Expectations

I feel that learning developers often place higher expectations on students than subject lecturers and I am interested in how LDers address that potential conflict/friction.

Perspective-work appraisal tool for LD practice

What do students think we do?

'Development' is a bit of a weird term, and students often don't know what we do. I work at a managerial/strategic level where I oversee others who teach, but I also teach 1:1 and in groups myself, and explaining to students what they can expect from my role/team is really tricky. How do we market ourselves to students?

Belonging is coming up more and more in our APP work and it is unclear who should take this forward - what is the scope for LD teams to contribute towards the development of student belonging. Particularly but not limited to WP students and APP work.

Are one-to-ones actually very scalable?

One-to-ones are often thought of as non-scaleable because they are focused on individuals. However, if you think about this from a complexity perspective, then that interaction might have wide, complex impacts (over literally generations); it may also be that there are things that could be done to increase scalability from within the one-to-one.
