Because branding creates a false perception of drug efficacy with consumers believing that the more renowned a brand is, the more effective it will be. But, producer wise, it is important to own a brand for the drug you developed for as long as the intellectual property right allow it because the R&D cost is not cheap and you would want to look for a continuous stream of profits for as long as possible before deciding to invest millions in developing new drug.
