My preliminary idea for research is to establish leadership skills and traits developed through sports involvement that are present in organizational leadership of non-sport professions. Potential research questions include:

1. What leadership traits developed through sports involvement influence the leadership style of mid to upper management professionals within non-sport professions?

2. What perceived leadership traits learned from sports involvement are utilized in management decisions within non-sport professions?

Sports play an integral role in the lives of the majority of all Americans. Albeit playing soccer as a youth, watching the Super Bowl as an adult, or merely living in a major metropolitan city which acts as the home of a sport franchise; sports are part of almost everyone's life. With some research suggesting approximately three in four American adults having had played sports in their life, it is interesting to think about the impact that involvement has on their outlook in various areas of life. The purpose of this research is to identify the impact an individual’s athletic background has had on their competency as a leader in a non-sports profession.

Alternatively, much research highlights the leadership skills/traits gained through sports involvement and the success of individuals with sports backgrounds within management.
