Interview with a Teacher:

1. How do you establish clear expectations and rules in your classroom to promote a positive and productive learning environment? Can you provide specific examples of strategies you use?

A: Talk with the kids. You get to know them and know their schedule, i.e., knowing their schedules and hobbies gets you to know them on a personal level, so it makes them feel comfortable. Ask the class what their interests are in the class you are teaching.

2. Classroom disruptions can occur for various reasons. Can you share an experience when you effectively handled a disruptive situation in your classroom, and what steps did you take to address it?

A: You can address the disruption by taking a few moments at the door. Inform the student(s) that you can speak with them after class if the disruption continues. Make sure you can get adequate 1 on 1 time to make sure the student understands your discussion.

3. Differentiated instruction is important to meet the diverse needs of students. How do you adapt your classroom management approach to accommodate students with different learning styles and abilities?

A: Assign kids to different projects that suit their needs. Learn the kids’ learning styles and interests and put them into groups for different assignments so all kids are equally invested in the assignment. “Multiple Intelligences in the Classroom” by Thomas Armstrong is a good book to learn more about learning styles.

4. Building positive relationships with students is crucial for effective classroom management. Can you describe your methods for building rapport with your students, and how do these relationships contribute to a well-managed classroom?

A: It is a matter of giving students opportunities to speak with you regarding the lesson, tests, or deadlines. Time management is a huge factor in building rapport since you have to set aside time to speak with a student while also teaching the whole class.

5. Time management is crucial in a classroom setting. How do you effectively allocate and manage time for different activities and subjects within your daily lesson plans to ensure a balanced and productive learning experience for your students? Can you provide an example of a time management strategy you've found effective?

A: A clock on the wall is a good start, but try to be flexible—not every single assignment will follow through because of outside sources. Try your best to stay true to your syllabus so both you and your students can stick to classroom expectations. If you have a student who does well in your class, assign them to ‘wave’ their hand if the class starts to go off subject so class can resume.Another thing is that when you are making rounds to check students work, make sure to remind them of how much time they have left in class to finish an assignment so that they can also manage their own time.
