Carnegie was born in 1835 in Scotland. He moved to the US and worked in several railroad jobs. He began to make investments in oil, where he made a great deal of his money. He created his own steel company, the Carnegie Steel Company. His new methods of steel production made the production of steel faster. The reason for this is that the company owned every aspect of the production business, from shipping to raw goods.

Carnegie fueled American industry during the turn of the century. His actions were important in the development of the American economy as well as the way that business was conducted. He was critized becuase of his often poor treatment of his workers. During one incident, his workers went on strike due to low wages.

With his wealth, Carnegie made donations to others throughout his career but he also made huge contributions in education. He donated five million dollars to the New York Public library and he created Carnegie-Mellon University.

Bibliography:

Biography.com Editors. "Andrew Carnegie Biography." Bio.com.
