After listening to this station for about twenty minutes, I realized that the music contains lots of orchestras with strings as the main sound, but of course I hear the woodwinds, percussion, and many more. Masterpieces created by well known musicians like Respighi, Leo, Beethoven, and Elgar were being played at the time I decided to listen to the Classical Radio and I must say that I enjoyed it because I felt like I was going to musical or a play. Some pieces had a strong intense vibe and others had soft/calming vibes Also, I am actually surprised that I was familiar with some of the music. I have never heard of this radio station until now, but I will be sure to tell my friends who love music as well about this.

I live in Maple Hall which is very close to the music building and I hear music coming from the practice rooms or even outside on a daily basis. When my roommate and I are walking to Bruce to eat, we pass the practice rooms. Every time, we hear either brass instruments playing canonic music or the snare drums. One day, I heard a student in my dorm playing the piano and she was playing a classic by Beethoven which is the Piano Sonata no. 8. I am really glad that I go to such a talented school, after understanding canons, I do hear a lot of canonic music (including western) on almost a daily basis.

"Symphonies and operas are works that exist in our imaginations outside of any specific performance. They are connected to the idea of the transcendent, the sublime, and the creator. Jazz standards, on the other hand, do not exist outside specific performances. We tend to think of them as fairly blank canvases upon which different artists may paint."

This weekend, I decided to walk through the Music building and view different things on the walls, hear fellow peers practicing their instruments, and even carrying their instruments. Of course I have class in this building but I have never noticed the pictures, posters, and flyers on the wall because I was so busy getting to class. While I was walking around, I came upon a flyer that showed UNT has a Classical Music Network. I found this very astonishing due to the fact that we are learning about the western classical music canon in our class right now.

"Pop music, jazz, and much of non-Western music may be fairly simple melodically, harmonically, and formally, but it may be quite complex rhythmically and timbrally." This quote stuck out to me the most after I took this video of a student practicing in the music building because I realized that it is difficult(or complex as the quote says) to create and master these rhythms and sounds. In the video, you will notice that it is some type of string instrument which was used heavily in the classical music western music during past times and to hear someone play so well in this generation amazes me.Practice really does make perfect.
