I love that Google Classroom truly supports a "formative feedback workflow". Students can collaborate and submit their learning to their teacher(s), and the teacher(s) can easily go into their files (Docs, Slides, etc...) and provide comments, suggestions, and powerful, timely feedback. The "return" and "resubmit" functions allow for students to truly enter into an iterative cycle of improving their learning over time.

Here is a complete overview video here if you've yet to use Google Classroom:

Google classroom is my "one stop shop". The more I experiment and learn, the more I've been using it. I like best that I can use it as a formative overview of student improvement in writing. With all three of my current classes, it's a place where both they and I can leave and share information- it's a one-up from my typical classroom website (goodbye Weebly!).
My dance class loathes my music choices for warm up, so I had them each share a playlist link to the classroom that I can easily click on and use each day- That saves me hours of trying to find and compile "good" music for them. There has been no mutiny since

I teach 5/6, and I have one classroom for my "homeroom" group, and created another for a different group of students at our school who are doing a Media & Government Inquiry with me. They were so happy to be part of this "exclusive" Google classroom! lol
I like that I can start off by only allowing comments. Once I am comfortable they are settling in as digital citizens, I'll turn on posting and let them share to our stream! My next step is to use assignments, which is really exciting. My wonder right now: is there a way to monitor what my students are creating and storing in their drive if it isn't part of our classroom assignments?

I love that I can create assignments for my students to complete in isolation or in a collaborative digital space all with just a few clicks of the mouse. I can easily establish working groups and share specific tasks with each group. Being able to provide feedback to my students right within the environment in which they are working is so incredibly valuable. Overall, I find that my students are much more willing to act upon the feedback that they receive from me (and/or their peers) in a digital environment in comparison to how they react to the anecdotal feedback that they receive from me on paper. This year in addition to having classrooms for each subject area, I am using a Google Classroom ‘social feed.’ I previously used the LMS Edmodo for all that I now use Google Classroom for and I had my reservations about how engaged the students would be. We are two months into this and the students are really starting to feel more comfortable in this digital space and some of the discourse that is coming out of my own prompts and those threads initiated by my students themselves is beginning to show real promise. I love the versatility of the digital classroom. It takes a bit of time to teach the students how it all works, but the gains are well worth the investment.

I too love it. I love that I can easily differentiate without anyone noticing. If I title assignments in a similar way, no one notices that one kid is doing something slightly different, and neither do they! It also lets me adjust on the fly if something is too hard for someone and needs more adaptation. I post all my notes on my classroom so kids can be away and still have an idea of what's going on. I do have to be careful to make sure that when student do hand something in on paper instead of using the classroom, that they go in and mark it done (teachers can't do that from their end unless you "return" an assignment). I've got the parents summary emails automatically going out and have had a couple of panicked emails from parents because something was marked "not done". I do also wish that parents could SEE some of the student work without having the kid log in. It would essentially replace Freshgrade if it could do that! One stop shop for sure!
